Job summary
An
opportunity has arisen within the MY Therapy service to recruit a highly
motivated band 3 Technical Instructor on a fixed term, part time basis. MY Therapy service is a large and very
busy MDT incorporating Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Dieticians
and support staff. We are proud to have played a large part in the Connecting
Care Closer to Home agenda for Wakefield. We are based across the Wakefield
District covering several bases. Our team is flexible and the successful
candidate will be asked to work across a variety of bases.
NHS
and Council workers, together with the voluntary sector in Wakefield District,
have been part of this scheme to pioneer integrated care between a number of
organisations in particular Health, Social Care and the voluntary sector to
deliver more joined up services closer to home where possible for citizens. The
aim is to help people to remain more independent for longer whilst receiving
health and social care in their own home where possible.

candidate will instil the Trusts values and behaviours in ensuring quality
services continue to be delivered and to strive for further improvement.

Main duties of the job
Duties will include
providing support and assistance to registered Therapists in the assessment and
treatment of complex patients. You will use specialist technical skills and
knowledge to provide a flexible, client centred, therapeutic programme for patients
with a variety of physical, psychological and social needs.
The Band 3
Technical Instructor will provide rehabilitation to individuals within the
Wakefield area, assisting in preventing unnecessary admissions to hospital and
facilitating timely discharges from hospital. The position will provide an
exciting opportunity to be involved in an established team but also as part of
a larger rehabilitation service.
This post will
provide an opportunity to be involved in further integration between health,
social and voluntary services for Wakefield residents in line with the
Connecting Care agenda.

Job description
Job responsibilities
- Under the
supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist the post holder will be expected to:
- To undertake
domiciliary Therapy assessments, interventions and rehabilitation for a
designated caseload.
- Be responsible for
the assessing, issuing and fitting of specialist equipment and the provision of
adaptations.
- Assessing to
maintain the independence of client living within their home environments,
following specific rehabilitation programmes set by the Therapist.
- Uphold the Trusts
values and behaviours (available on the Trust web site) and behave in a manner
fitting with the responsible position of the post holder, maintaining the
public confidence
- To be responsible
for managing a caseload of clients identified by a registered Occupational
Therapist or Physiotherapist using technical/creative skills to
enable clients to maintain independence and well-being.
- Compile reports on
clients occupational functioning and formulate recommendations for specialist
equipment and adaptations
- Under the
supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist, undertake activities which
enable individual clients to achieve their Occupational Therapy goals, using
ongoing continuous assessment and adjusting own clinical interventions to meet
the fluctuating needs of the clients.
- Under the
supervision of a registered Physiotherapist, undertake rehabilitation
programmes with clients to enable individuals to achieve Physiotherapy goals.
- Be responsible for
the assessing, issuing and fitting of specialist equipment and the provision of
adaptations, aiming to maintain the independence of clients living within their
home environments.
- To undertake
follow-up visits to review and monitor the continued suitability of equipment
and adaptations.
- Assist in the
implementation, evaluation and modification of Therapy and team interventions.
- Work effectively as
a member of the Intermediate Careteam to provide a community based
service by undertaking delegated tasks which contribute to the safe and smooth
running of the service.
- Undertake the
adjustment and alteration of specific items of equipment in line with
appropriate health and safety guidelines.
- To be responsible for planning own day to day allocated workload
including reacting to referrals within agreed time scales to prevent clients
being admitted to hospital or other care settings.
- To work independently in a variety of community settings, where the
environment is previously unknown and may pose a risk to personal safety
including exposure to varying degrees of cleanliness, space and temperature
- To be a car driver and drive as required throughout the day in all
weather condition.
- To be flexible to work in a variety of clinical settings in Intermediate
Care, and have the necessary competencies and skill required to undertake work
as designated by an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.
- To assist the qualified Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to
carry out rapid, specialist assessments in the community in order to prevent
unnecessary hospital admissions.
- To carry out up to 6 weeks rehabilitation, as directed by the Therapist
with clients in their own homes or in a relevant Intermediate Care setting, in
order to maximise the clients independence.
- To maintain confidentiality in line with Trust standards and policies.
- To use a range of verbal and non-verbal skills to establish a
professional rapport with clients and encourage their interest and
participation in the Therapy interventions by communicating with them in a way
that reflects their views, autonomy and culture.
- To adapt own verbal and non verbal communication in order to work with
clients in sensitive situations.
- To modify individual interaction where there may be difficulties with
understanding for reasons such as physical or psychological impairment.
- To report effectively to a registered Therapist and other agencies on
recommendations for equipment or adaptations and in areas of client risk, self
maintenance, productivity and leisure.
- To understand and act appropriately on,
written and verbal instruction from a registered Therapist to carry out
specific interventions.

- To be responsible for the written recording of up to date, accurate
information concerning the Therapy interventions in line with
