Job summary

We at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust are seeking a Clinical Director to provide Clinical leadership for the Specialist Medicine Directorate. You will lead our Respiratory, Infectious Diseases and Gastroenterology Teams which covers sites at Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital.

About us

We are one of the largest and most modern in the country. We serve around three million people and we are highly regarded for our facilities, teaching and research. The Trust has around 1,450 inpatient beds across sites in Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. Our 11,000 strong workforce provides emergency and planned care from the Royal Stoke University Hospital (RSUH) and the County Hospital, Stafford.

Job responsibilities

As part of the Directorate leadership team, you will provide and develop a working environment and culture of trust, openness and effective team working, which fosters high morale, commitment and optimum performance among all staff and promotes their well-being, professional and personal development in line with service needs.

You will lead the development of QI across the service, building a culture of inquiry, learning and practice improvement; identifying areas of service improvement, pathway development and new models of care where patient experience and outcomes can be enhanced. You will collaborate with colleagues to standardise practice and reduce variation where clinically beneficial.

The Clinical Director will provide constant and visible leadership to jointly lead the directorate team to ensure delivery of its performance, financial and governance requirements.

Person Specification

Clinical Director - Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Qualified Clinical Practitioner at a senior level e.g. Medical Consultant, Nurse Consultant.
  • Full registration with GMC / Professional Body / NMC / HPC
  • Specialty qualifications or specialty accreditation.

Desirable

  • Evidence of Leadership or Management Development.

Clinical Director - Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of implementing/facilitating Service Improvements.
  • Experience of assessing and managing risk associated with service change
  • Evidence of working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders
  • Evidence of effective Resource Management
  • Experience of managing others

Desirable

  • Experience of working as a Clinical Lead.

Clinical Director - Leadership and Management Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of leading and delivering change through others
  • Evidence of effective team working to deliver and improve services

Consultant - Qualifications

Essential

  • Entry on the GMC in General Internal Medicine
  • MRCP (UK) or an equivalent Qualification

Desirable

  • MD, PhD or equivalent

Consultant - Clinical Experience & Training

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in Acute Internal Medicine (AIM) or General Internal Medicine (GIM)

Desirable

  • Critical Care experience
  • Higher training in a dedicated Acute Medicine specialty training scheme.

Consultant - Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working

Essential

  • Thorough and detailed knowledge of medical audit, medical education, current clinical and medical best practice

Desirable

  • Further skills in information technology

Consultant - Academic Achievements, Research, Publications

  • Experience of conducting clinical audit.

  • To have published in peer reviewed journals.
