Job summary

This new role will support the effective delivery of specialist public health advice and leadership across the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Trust footprint.

You will work with senior clinicians, managers and other healthcare professionals on complex issues which public health input and expertise is required.

This role will help us to deliver our Ambition to Improve Population Health in all of our Places.

We're looking for Consultant in Public health/Consultant in Public Health Medicine to join our forward thinking clinical leadership team at Northern Care Alliance, one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK.

You will support us in dealing with complex health issues, advise and make practical recommendations regarding population health issues as well as service configuration in order that we improve the care we offer and provide for our patients and their families.

You will have strategic oversight for developing and delivering a public health strategy for the organisation to ensure that ill health prevention, health inequalities and health promotion are part of core service delivery and are embedded within longer term strategies.

You will guide and support us in understanding as well as addressing health inequalities.

Yours will be a key role within the Chief Medical Officer portfolio.

The role will be supported via the existing Public Health infrastructure for our System and Place.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Use of public health intelligence to assess population health and wellbeing
  • Assessing the evidence of effectiveness of health and healthcare programmes and interventions
  • Development and implementation of policy and strategy related to Public Health

Person Specification

Professional Registration

Essential

  • Full and Specialist Registration (Medical and Dental applicants) or be within 6 months of registration at time of interview
  • Registration with the UKPHR (non Medical and Dental Applicants) or be within 6 months of registration at the date of the interview.
  • Applicants currently in non-training grade posts: -Non-UK trained will be required to demonstrate evidence of equivalence of UK CCT -Applicants from Medical backgrounds will have gained full specialist registration via GMC CESR route -Applicants from a non-Medical background will have gained full specialist registration with UKPHR at the point of application

Education

Essential

  • Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body
  • MFPH by examination, by exemption or by assessment
  • In good standing with the Faculty of Public Health

Desirable

  • Masters in Public Health
