Job summary

We are delighted to be able invite applicants for our Band B Senior Dentist position, to join our Consultant-led Special Care Dentistry and Paediatric Dentistry Team in Somerset

This is a permanent, full time (37.5 hours) positions, working Monday - Friday 08.30-17.00. Consideration will be given to applicants looking for a part time position and we'd be happy to talk this through at interview.

The annual salary ranges for this post is £74,126 - £86, 701, actual salary will be dependent on experience

Main duties of the job

This is a clinical post providing dental care to patients of the Primary Care Dental Service within Somerset. You will work as part of a team to provide care for our service users, those patients with dental needs outside of general dental practice (GDP) care, as well as a variety of work including domiciliary, urgent care, general anaesthetic and minor oral Surgery

The service provides care for adults and children with Additional Needs and Learning Disabilities, including medically compromised patients who require treatment in a specialised setting.

The post will be based at one of our clinics in Somerset, although there may be on occasion a need to travel to and work from other sites in the county. In addition, your role will include domiciliary care for patients in their own homes, nursing and care settings

Job responsibilities

We are looking a GDC registered dentist who has an NHS England performer number, experience of working within primary, community, secondary or general dental care, who is passionate about patient care, shares our values, enjoys their work and is a flexible team player.

Main Responsibilities

  • To work with Special Care and Paediatric Dental patients.
  • Contribute to the planning, development and day to day operational management of the service.
  • Monitor performance activity.
  • Assist and deputise for the Assistant Clinical Director as required.
  • To provide oral health care to patients in the Primary Care Dental Service, including priority groups, people with Additional Needs and other patients who would not otherwise be reasonably expected to access NHS General Dental Services.
  • To manage and provide dental treatment under general anaesthetic or conscious sedation as appropriate.
  • To provide dental services at the clinic base and be flexible to be able to provide treatments in domiciliary settings and if required at other dental clinics or other hospital settings across the service.
  • To be involved in providing epidemiology services and dental screening of school children and other priority groups if required by the service.
  • To maintain up to date knowledge and skills on clinical techniques and their application to patient dental care.
  • To maintain CPD requirements to ensure maintenance on the General Dental Council Register.
  • The Senior Dental Officer is recommended to be a member of a registered Professional Protection Society.
