Job summary

This is an opportunity for an experienced counsellor to join our team. You will be working within a supportive team environment whilst supporting people affected by cancer; from pre-diagnosis onward on their cancer journey, alongside their families and carers, by providing psychological counselling support.

You will be based within Carmarthenshire and Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, offering face-to-face appointments from Withybush General Hospital and Carmarthen. However, will you need to be willing to travel to other sites across the Health Board within all the three counties of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. We offer a blended model of engagement, including the use of virtual platforms as well as face to face.

The applicant will require experience working autonomously within community settings and be established in homeworking, providing digital counselling both one -to- one and group support.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will become an integral member of the team. We offer flexible working arrangements and in return we ask for your flexibility in meeting service need. We provide high level of supervision and caseload management support in light of the complexities of supporting patients, families and their carers through their cancer journey.

For continued professional development, we keep an eye on learning opportunities both in-house and externally.

You will be working within the CaPS service providing counselling and psychological support to patients, their families and carers.

You will be conducting assessments and provide one to one counselling support, alongside facilitating group work.

You will be required to work alongside and in partnership with other Healthcare professionals and cancer services.

This role requires a high degree of autonomous working while providing support within community settings, alongside hospital sites. Homeworking is an intrinsic part of this role, working digitally with clients who access the service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Registered with BACP
  • Relevant Diploma in Counselling
  • Has, or working towards, Accreditation
  • Online and telephone counselling qualification

Desirable

  • Related Counselling qualifications

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of relevant cancer or end-of-life practice
  • Working in adult cancer or end-of-life Counselling
  • Receiving Clinical Supervision
  • In depth knowledge of cancer care and experience of its delivery
  • Delivering counselling via digital means
  • Experience of working autonomously in community settings/ and from home

Desirable

  • Evidence of broad spectrum of relevant Counselling experience
  • NHS Experience and Community working
