Are you interested in nutrition and enjoy working with people?

We are looking for a friendly and approachable team player to join the Nutrition and Dietetic Department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital to help us provide nutritional care to patients on the wards. As a Dietetic clinical support worker you will help the Dietitians monitor and review the nutritional intake of some of the patients under our care. Your role will also include supporting the Dietitian's with education and training, assisting with service development and undertaking various administrative duties related to the role.

You will have experience of working with people who are unwell, have the ability to work on your own initiative under the supervision of Dietitians, be self-motivated and have good communication skills.

A good level of IT skill, in applications such as word and excel, is required.

The dietetic team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital is a supportive team with a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing. It is part of a large, integrated Nutrition and Dietetic service which consists of over 40 members of staff, providing acute and community nutrition and dietetic services across Buckinghamshire.

We actively encourage CPD and clinical supervision for the professional development of the team. The department has good secretarial / IT support.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the dietetic team, under direct supervision, to help and support the dietitians provide nutrition and dietetic services to inpatients and outpatients of Stoke Mandeville Hospital

The job has a varied workload including review of patients on special diets, liaising with wards and other departments within the hospital and some administrative work.

Clinical:

1. With relevant training, to provide basic dietetic advice and support to inpatients, under the supervision of qualified Dietitians.

2. To manage a clinical caseload under the supervision of a qualified Dietitian.

3. To document, evaluate and feedback to qualified Dietitians following all interventions.

4. To be responsible for keeping own accurate and up-to-date records of interventions taken, in accordance with departmental protocols on record keeping.

5. To liaise with catering, nursing and dietetic staff regarding special diets and nutritional supplements.

6. To participate in department audits as requested.

7. With relevant training, to assist the discharge of patients on home enteral feeds, by becoming familiar with and arranging supply of appropriate equipment, registering patients with home enteral feed company and liaising with GP practices, community Dietitians - under the supervision of a qualified Dietitian.

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Experience of working within a team.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

  • Good level of education to GCSE standard at least 3 subjects to include English/Maths]

Desirable

  • NVQ level III in healthcare
  • ECDL modules or equivalent
