Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic,
motivated, and competent clinician to become part of our friendly team at the
Lymington Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) in the New Forest, Hampshire. This is
an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinician to progress and achieve
the level of nurse practitioner/specialist paramedic prescriber and become a
competent and autonomous practitioner, within the field of minor injury and
minor illness. The UTC has run the Development Clinical Practitioner programme
successfully for 2 years with clinicians achieving an excellent clinical and
academic standard.
The successful applicant should be a
registered nurse or paramedic with good experience of emergency care. We are also
particularly interested in candidates with a background in minor injury and/or
illness. You will also need a high degree of enthusiasm and
drive to develop as a clinician and work with the team to gain the necessary
knowledge and experience to achieve the level to be a competent and autonomous
practitioner. This is a post comprising of a minimum of 36 hours per week and
an expectation of working a range of shifts, including
evening, weekends, bank-holidays. As a development post it will involve a
period of learning and experience within the department to sign off on
competencies, attending relevant short training courses, and the department will
support the applicant through the necessary level 7 university modules to
achieve the level of Clinical Practitioner Prescriber.

- At least four years of working full-time within an acute healthcare setting such as emergency department, primary care, or pre-hospital.
- No sanctions stated within your current practice.
- A demonstrable and good standard of continued professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical practitioner role.
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills written, verbal (particularly listening skills
- Clear understanding of professional responsibility and accountability.
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise own workload
- Be able to clear an enhanced DBS check/Must be authorised to work in the UK

Lymington UTC sees approximately 31,000
attendances per year and this demand has increased since the COVID pandemic. Our
department has had to adapt greatly to meet the demands of a greater influx of
acutely unwell and injured patients attending our department. The service sees
patients from all ages, and we are fortunate to have excellent facilities and
an ability to manage a range of different patient presentations. Our clinical
team comprises of nurse practitioners, specialist paramedics, doctor/GPs, as well
as healthcare support workers. The team has a reputation of being approachable,
friendly, and providing excellent support to all level of clinicians.

Job responsibilities
- Initial supernumery period and mentored role to develop accountability for his/her own professional actions.
- Supervised assessment of undifferentiated patients with a range of acute, non-acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Develop core knowledge and competence to a take history, make appropriate physical examinations, formulate differential diagnoses and formulate/manage treatment plans when working in any clinical environment.
- Refer and facilitate patient pathways through appropriate referrals to primary, community, secondary and tertiary care for patients when necessary, such as 2-week wait, urgent and routine referrals to specialities.
- Develop the skills and knowledge to recognise the need and initiate emergency treatment to save life or to safeguard the interests of the patient and refer to emergency services when appropriate.
- Develop the skills and knowledge to assess and manage a wide range of minor injury and illness presentations
- Develop competence to recognise any social needs, safeguarding concerns and act appropriately to safeguard the patient.
- Develop competence to ensure that patients are safely discharged from our care with appropriate instructions for after care and follow up.
- Identify opportunities to proactively encourage health promotion and health education to all patients.
- Take a person-centred approach to service delivery, based on clear understanding and experience of the modes for service delivery.
- To assist in the development of new models for service delivery which have a positive impact on the health economy.
- Develop and maintain clinical competence and knowledge of care delivery within the health care setting taking responsibility for your educational and developmental requirements and continued professional development.
- To work within the professional Code of Conduct and other directives as defined by the NMC/HCPC.
- To be responsible and accountable for legible and contemporaneous clinical records
- To undertake appropriate personal and professional development to meet the requirements of NMC/HCPC Registration.

Qualifications
Essential

- Completion of MSc level 7 module/s
- ILS/PILS or ALS qualification
- Level 3 safeguarding of adults and children
