Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic GP to join our well-supported practice team to work 4-6 sessions per week. We're a flexible employer, so we would be happy to talk about a working pattern that suits your busy life or portfolio career. The position would initially be as a Salaried GP, but if you were interested it could progress to partnership.

The starting date is negotiable and though we have set a closing date of the end of August we may close applications early if we find the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

The post includes the full range of duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working in primary care, including working extended hours.

Extended hours

We currently offer evening appointments most Mondays and Wednesdays, with these sessions covered on a rota of all GPs. Some of these sessions are for telephone appointments, and could be worked remotely. Extended hours provision is currently under review to reflect updated national requirements to include closer working with our Didcot PCN partners.

About us

Didcot Health Centre is a large, well-established training practice. We operate from spacious, purpose-built premises on a single site close to the centre of town, and just a few minutes walk from Didcot Parkway station.

We collaborate closely with the other two Didcot practices making up the Didcot PCN. We also host regular outreach/community clinics from secondary care, and various counselling services. We also accommodate the District Nursing and Midwifery teams for Didcot.

Regular education sessions are programmed into clinicians' schedules.

We are proud to have been a training practice for many years, and we currently have two trainers working with one ST3 and an ST2. We recognise people's desire for personal development and will support you in your area of clinical interest, helping you to develop expertise.

Job description

Job responsibilities

A range of clinical responsibilities including:

  • telephone and face to face consultations
  • repeat prescribing/medication queries
  • Duty Doctor sessions on a rota
  • occasional home visits.

You will further be expected to:

  • make professional autonomous decisions about presenting problems
  • assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • screen patients for disease risk and early signs of illness
  • develop healthcare plans with patients in line with disease management protocols
  • refer patients to other care providers as appropriate
  • record clear, contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • collect data for audit
  • compile and issue acute and repeat prescriptions in line with national/local prescribing formularies
  • complete all clinical admin in a timely fashion
  • keep abreast of changes to national/local clinical guidelines and protocols, keeping your knowledge and practice up to date.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Fully-qualified GP eligible to work in General Practice in the NHS
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Knowledge of the NHS
  • A commitment to continuing professional development
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Flexible and trustworthy
  • A willingness to participate in practice meetings and development initiatives
  • Competent IT skills

Desirable
