Main duties of the job
St Johns Hospice has a 15 bed In Patient Unit (IPU). The medical care for the IPU is consultant led and supported by other medical staff: Specialty Doctors, a Specialist Registrar and a team of Junior Doctors (GP VTS trainees and FY Doctors).
Job Summary:
This is a replacement post based at St Johns Hospice, Moggerhanger (6 PAs). The post holder will be responsible for providing medical leadership and clinical management of patients at St Johns hospice. The post holder will work closely with the other consultant in Palliative medicine who is also based, in part, at St Johns Hospice. They will be part of the regional consultant on call team for palliative care. The post holder will work with colleagues towards achieving:
Effective and integrated co-ordination of palliative and end of life care ensuring the right care and support is as timely, seamless and as person-centred as possible.
An emphasis on a community-focused as opposed to an acute-led service.
Continuous service review with patients and stakeholder groups
Early referral to specialist palliative care services, as appropriate
Provision of effective and seamless links to other generalist services e.g. frail and elderly, long term conditions.

Sue Ryder St Johns Hospice, run by the national charity Sue Ryder, provides specialist palliative care services to a wide local area including the people of Bedfordshire and the bordering areas of Huntingdonshire and South Cambridgeshire. The hospice is situated in the village of Moggerhanger in Bedfordshire. Set in its own grounds and surrounded by farmland, it is easily accessible from nearby Sandy, Bedford and St Neots. Sue Ryder, formerly Sue Ryder Care, was founded over fifty years ago as the Sue Ryder Foundation, and has major experience as a provider of care to adults with complex needs. Currently with seven specialist palliative care centres, Sue Ryder is one of the largest independent providers of specialist palliative care in the UK.

- Current registration with the GMC UK. Previous experience with palliative medicine.
