Job summary

We are looking for a Salaried GP to join our team for 5 sessions per week (Wednesday to Friday) to cover a 12 month Maternity Leave starting September 2024.

We offer an attractive salary package including 6 weeks holiday and a weeks study leave, (pro-rata). We also pay medical indemnity.

We do not have personalised patient lists and we operate a streamlined efficient document workflow.

We actively support and encourage development of interests in specialised areas.

We are a training practice with 2 of our former Registrars working as Partners and another as a Salaried GP. An interest in training is an advantage.

About us

Measham Medical Unit is a friendly and supportive GP practice with a growing list size of over 15,500 patients. We have a large rural catchment area and are based on the outskirts of North West Leicestershire, providing services to patients in North West Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Warwickshire. We are a member of the North West Leicestershire PCN.

We have 6 GP Partners (5.0 w.t.e ) who are supported by an excellent diverse clinical team comprising of 4 salaried doctors, 2 Clinical Pharmacists, a Pharmacy Technician, a Paramedic, 2 Physicians Associates, 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 1 Physiotherapist, 4 Practice Nurses, 4 Health Care Assistants and a Mental Health Facilitator.

We have a well-established and cohesive Management Team made up of 7 members, including a dedicated Reception Manager.

We have our own dispensary which dispenses over 11000 prescription items each month. We also operate a dispensary delivery service.

Relationships and communication are very important to us, and to facilitate this we invest the time to meet regularly. The Partners and Salaried GPs meet daily at a morning meeting. Tea breaks here are designed so that clinical and administrative staff take them together.

Our relationships with local practices within our Primary Care Network are excellent; our Senior Partner is the Clinical Chair of our local GP federation and Clinical Director of our PCN.

Job responsibilities

  • The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
  • In accordance with the practice rota, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Provide management of long-term conditions in line with local and national guidelines and pathways
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, develop care plans for health
  • Provide counselling and health education
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • Read and interpret test results ordered by you and other team members, taking appropriate action based on the findings
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Collect data for audit purposes
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
