Are you a strategic health and care leader with significant experience as an executive or non-executive at Board level? We are seeking to appoint several Non-Executive Members to sit on NHS South West London Integrated Care Board unitary board and work collaboratively to shape and ensure delivery of the 10-year Integrated Care Strategy, the 5-year NHS Joint Forward Plan, and short-term plans. This is an exciting time to join a dynamic organisation in delivering health care across South West London as we move forward into our third year of operation with a focus on embracing the opportunities and current challenges to better serve our community. These roles ensure effective governance and focus on the core purposes of Integrated Care Systems. The roles are accountable for providing assurance and scrutiny across the whole organisation, bringing independent challenge, perspective, and expertise to the Board and to the Committees they Chair.

Main duties of the job

Role Priorities

The independent non-executive members will:

Work collaboratively to shape the long-term, strategic vision for the organisation and provide assurance that there are viable plans for the delivery of the functions, duties, and objectives of the ICB and for the stewardship of public money.

As an NHS leader and as a member of the ICB Board, you will demonstrate a range of leadership competencies and contribute to a wide range of areas, including setting the vision, strategy, and clear objectives for the ICB in delivering on the four core purposes (above) as well as the triple aim of improved population health, quality of care and cost-control.

Provide support, independence, external perspective, scrutiny, and challenge to the Board and those Committees that you either Chair or sit on.

Ensure that the Board and its committees are effective in all aspects of its role and appropriately focused on the four core purposes of the ICB to: improve outcomes in population health and healthcare; tackle inequalities in outcomes, experience, and access; enhance productivity and value for money; and help the NHS support broader social and economic development.

Support the Chair and the wider Board on issues that impact organisations and workforce across the ICB, such as integration, workforce, Digital transformation, Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) and Elective Recovery

NHS South West London Integrated Care Board (ICB), as part of South West London Integrated Care System (ICS), is a partnership of organisations that come together to plan and deliver joined up health and care services to improve the lives of people in our six boroughs: Croydon, Merton, Kingston, Richmond, Sutton, and Wandsworth.

Each ICS consists of two statutory elements:

  • an Integrated Care Board, bringing the NHS together with its partners locally to improve health and care services.
  • an Integrated Care Partnership (ICP): the broad alliance of organisations and representatives concerned with improving the care, health and wellbeing of the population, jointly convened by the ICB and local authorities in the area

ICBs are statutory NHS bodies responsible for planning and allocating resources to meet the four core purposes of integrated care systems (ICSs):

  • to improve outcomes in population health and healthcare;
  • tackle inequalities in outcomes, experience and access;
  • enhance productivity and value for money and;
  • help the NHS support broader social and economic development.

NHS South West London Integrated Care Board decides how the South West London NHS budget is spent and develops plans to improve people's health, deliver higher quality care, and better value for money.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience in executive and/or non-executive roles at Board level, with specific knowledge in performance, workforce, quality, or finance within an NHS or health and care setting.

Strategic Thinker

  • Meet all of the qualification criteria set out in the SWL ICB Constitution [RS(SWLI1] [EL2] Meet the requirements of the fit and proper person test with no substantial conflicts of interest.

Local Knowledge

Desirable

  • While not essential, links and knowledge of South West London are advantageous.
