The Trust is seeking 2 specialty doctors to join a dementia inpatient unit based at Forget Me Not Unit, Worthing. The Trust has redesigned Dementia inpatient services modernising and developing the functioning of the teams.

Main duties of the job

The post holders would be working with patients on the 3 wards as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

The role of the post holders in the ward team will be to see new admissions, provide assessments, formulation and risk assessments, to support the consultant to develop initial management plans and review these.

Post holders will have 9 PA's of direct clinical contact and 1 PA of SPA time.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is required to:

  • The post holders will work closely with the consultant on the wards.
  • The post holders will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and aftercare services to people aged 18 and above admitted to the ward.
  • The Post holders will participate in the daily MDT huddle.
  • The Post holders work will involve assessing new admissions, considering their mental and physical health, diagnosing and formulating management plans and risk assessments of newly admitted patients and on-going review of established in-patients.
  • The Post holders will be expected to attend professionals meetings of complex patients on the ward, as necessary.
  • The post holders will provide clinical leadership to junior medical staff.
  • The post holders will participate in planning and developing local Mental Health Services in line with the CDS aims and to contribute constructively to improving the standards of mental health care offered by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
  • The Post holders will be expected to liaise with other agencies in a professional capacity. The Post holder will be expected to form good working relationships with local GP surgeries.
  • The Post holder will be also expected to obtain s12(2) approval and maintain this.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych
  • Additional clinical qualifications.

ELIGIBILITY

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Desirable

  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
