We have opportunities available for creative, passionate and caring Practitioner Psychologists (Band 8a equivalent) at our clinical base in Shepshed.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high-quality, effective specialist assessments and therapy to children and their families remotely and in our clinical bases.
  • Produce high-quality, succinct assessment reports, which guide interventions.
  • Create high-quality, succinct evaluation reports, which demonstrate effectiveness of interventions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with children and their families and the professional networks around them, often in highly challenging circumstances.
  • Provide consultation and training to professionals in relation to their work with children.
  • To lead in your designated area of service development to support the continued improvement and growth of the service.
  • To supervise other clinicians.
  • Maintain the high reputation of the service.
  • Work within the service needs of a CIC.
  • Ensure that work is of high-quality and supports the sustainability of the service.
  • Ensure that all TCPS policies and procedures are understood and put into practice.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff development sessions, team meetings, individual or group supervision and clinical supervision and other meetings as required.

About us

The Child Psychology Service (TCPS) is a Social Enterprise that has been established for thirteen years and is built with therapeutic principles guiding its structure from the inside out. We foster an ethos of playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy in all that we do. TCPS has built a strong reputation of effectiveness and compassion as demonstrated by what our clients and commissioners say about us and our Outstanding Ofsted status (see our website).

TCPS works predominantly with care-experienced and adopted children and their families. We also provide consultation services to Local Authorities, Regional Adoption Agencies, residential childrens homes and schools. We invest heavily in our staff so that they have what they need to offer the highest quality services to children, families and partner agencies.

We are a not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to provide caring, therapeutic, psychological support to children and their families. We provide a free-at-the-point-of-access service to families and deliver training and consultations to partner organisations. We work closely with our colleagues in the NHS and social care to provide specialist, therapeutic assessments and interventions that arent always available within statutory services

Person Specification

Other Essential criteria

Essential

  • Own car and ability / willingness to travel for clinical visits.
  • Willingness to work some (infrequent) flexible hours i.e. outside typical office hours as business dictates.
  • Willingness to undertake further training as required.
  • All posts are subject to Disclosure and Barring Service check.
  • All candidates who are successful at interview will be asked to complete an application form for an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before the appointment is confirmed.
  • A private home space in which to hold online clinical appointments (all equipment will be provided).
  • Keep up-to-date with safeguarding training updates and uphold responsibilities laid out in the TCPS Safeguarding Policy.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychology.
  • Practitioner Psychologist Registration with HCPC.

Desirable

  • Additional therapeutic qualifications.

Experience

Essential

  • At least two years post-qualification experience.
  • Using standardised and non-standardised assessment tools and developing clear, high-quality psychological formulations.
  • Working in a professional team.
  • Experience and confidence in dealing with Safeguarding and Child Protection concerns.
  • Managing individual cases planning, recording, reviewing.
  • An empathic, non-judgmental approach to children, families, professionals and peers.
  • Skills and / or interest in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Theraplay and / or Non-Violent Resistance.
  • A compassionate, therapeutic approach to behavioural difficulties.
  • Experience of delivering consultation and / or training to other professionals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Competent with Microsoft Word, Excel and general computing.
  • Confident and innovative in working in challenging situations.
  • Ability to deliver evidence-based parenting intervention in groups and on a one-to-one basis.
  • Understand and relate well to children and families from a wide range of backgrounds both individually and in group settings.
  • Work independently, using own initiative appropriately within defined boundaries of work.
  • Understand difficult behaviour and how it relates to a person / networks distress.
  • Active use of supervision to deal with the impact of challenging cases.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, research and literature.

Desirable

  • 3+ years post-qualification experience.
  • Working therapeutically with care-experienced and adopted children, their families and the professional networks around them.
  • Experience in supervising other staff members.
  • Leading on Service Development Projects.
  • Delivering group training / therapeutic groups.
  • Delivering consultations to other professionals.
  • Using attachment-informed assessment tools.
  • Qualifications, training, experience and / or accreditation in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Theraplay, Non-Violent Resistance, Therapeutic Life Story Work, Creative Therapies (e.g. art, music, drama, play).
