Director of Education and Research
Location: Based in Sydenham
Department: St Christopher's CARE
Hours: Full time - 36 hours per week
Salary: £80,000 per annum
An exciting opportunity exists for an ambitious and forward-thinking leader to advance professional learning and impactful research related to palliative and end of life care.
The appointee will likely be an experienced academic with a clinical background who recognises their potential contribution to St Christophers as the leading research active hospice. We also look for someone who is passionate and possesses innovative education leadership skills, committed to building further capability, capacity and confidence through innovative learning offers, with a particular focus (but not exclusively) on health and care professionals.
This unique role is rich and broad, with potential for significant local, national and global impact. The new Director will enjoy promoting diversity in their role and be up for unexpected opportunities alongside those anticipated in the role description. This role includes leadership of our international learning programmes and activities.
The successful applicant will bring new vision for culture change, combined with energy, strategic connections, academic confidence and ambition for the Centre for Awareness and Response to End of Life (CARE) at St Christophers, through which a variety of learning and research activities will be generated and delivered.
St Christophers has a history focused on advancing practice, education and training, research and evaluation in palliative and end of life care. It builds on work by the retiring Director of Academic Learning and Action and draws on additional investment in leadership of professional learning and research on the part of the Board of trustees in recognition of the long-term value of this ongoing effort and related opportunities to shape local/national policy and practice.

As a member of the executive team you will possess a genuine desire to contribute towards our strategic ambition of tackling health inequities and inequalities, in palliative and end of life care Applicants with the potential to develop their profile further are also welcome. Their profile and interests should reflect the hospices strategic priorities and reflect changing societal needs and preferences, by drawing on and contributing to a growing evidence base.

- Higher degree (PhD) and Clinical qualification
