Job responsibilities

The Practitioner Psychologist will be an integral member of the Tier 3 Bariatrics team, providing specialized psychological assessments and interventions for patients with obesity. This role involves working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support patients through their weight management journey, addressing psychological factors that impact eating behaviours, weight management, and overall mental health.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assessment and Diagnosis:

    • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments to identify behavioural, emotional, and cognitive factors contributing to obesity.
    • Diagnose psychological conditions that may affect weight management, such as eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and other relevant conditions.
  • Therapeutic Interventions:

    • Develop and implement individualized psychological interventions to support behaviour change and weight management.
    • Provide evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and other relevant modalities.
    • Facilitate group therapy sessions and support groups for patients.
  • Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Work:

    • Work closely with dietitians, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and execute comprehensive care plans.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Administrative Duties:

    • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with legal and organizational standards.
    • Prepare reports and documentation as required for patient care, research, and audit purposes.

Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) in Psychology
  • Doctorate level qualification in clinical, counselling or heath psychology or equivalent
  • Eligibility for HCPC registration as Practitioner Psychologist

Experience

  • Experience of working within a clinical health care setting
  • Experience of working with individuals living with obesity
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups and presentations
  • Experience using a range of evidence based group and individual psychological interventions
  • Experience of working in an MDT
