Job summary

In this role, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working across a range of clinical and academic research activities at RICE. Although the role will primarily be in the delivery of clinical trials you will divide your time between your research nurse role and your role as a memory clinic nurse. You will be part of a team of doctors, nurses, and psychologists who diagnose and treat dementia. We establish patients on treatment and also offer non-drug treatment options. Our work in the NHS contracted Memory Clinic helps us to identify suitable patients for clinical trials, to develop ideas for research and to use the findings to help establish new treatments and inform best practice.

Main duties of the job

As a Research Nurse, you will play a key role in the provision of effective nursing services for optimal study delivery. You will be responsible for providing support as Study Coordinator on trials and will be closely involved from clinical start-up at the Site Initiation Visit right through to close-out. You will be trained every two years to follow ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

As an important part of our busy clinical team, you will assess patients, includingassessment of their cognitive function, and liaise with GPs, community mental health teams and other relevant services to best support their needs. Occasionally you may also see patients at home.

About us

RICE is an independent charity and an internationally renowned centre for dementia research, diagnosis and treatment. Our research aims to improve life for people with dementia and their families and carers, and to find drug and non-drug treatments for people with conditions such as Alzheimers disease and other diseases predominantly affecting older people. Our contracted NHS Memory Clinic service and allied activities also provide support to patients, families and carers. We are currently in an ambitious phase of development to increase significantly our clinical and academic research programme. We work closely with the Universities of Bath, Bristol and other research institutions, both nationally and internationally, and with the Royal United Hospital.
