Job summary

Launceston Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for an IT Administrator to join the team.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, adaptable and well organised person, as well as having excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills.

This is a varied and busy role which is key to ensure the smooth running of IT services across the Practice.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about technology. You will be able to learn and develop your existing skills using a variety of systems, as well as gain expereince in identifying and fixing IT related problems.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will provide support to the IT Manager in managing IT systems, ensuring data is accurately entered and reported.

In addition, the ideal candidate will support all aspects of IT across the Practice (technical support, IT user management, implementing new software and supporting patients with online access).

As well as providing support with administrative work including patient recalls and protocol development, in addition to creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for IT systems.

About us

We are a busy, committed team working together in a recently extended and refurbished Practice in Launceston, close to the beautiful beaches of North Coast Cornwall and surrounded by moorland countryside. The successful candidate will work within the support team to the GPs, already comprising of a Nurse Practitioner, Minor Illness Nurse and 6 Paramedics, in addition to our Nurses and HCAs. We have 6 Partners and 8 Salaried GPs (including remote GPs) with very experienced Management, IT, Reception, and Administration support. Additional allied professionals who work within our team are our Clinical Psychologists, Pharmacist, Physiotherapists and Social Prescriber. We are also proud to be a training practice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To provide general IT technical support across the practice.
  • Investigate and resolve problems in the day-to-day use of computers, printers and other IT related equipment.
  • Ensure the effective running of the Practices IT network and email system including the management of user profiles.
  • To become the Practice expert in all aspects of the Clinical system and be able to train other users, both clinical and non-clinical in the best use of the system.
  • Maintain the IT asset register, liaising with Cornwall IT Services regarding repairs and replacements.
  • Draft SOPS pertaining to IT Procedures and ensure their dissemination and implementation.
  • Liaise with HR department to deliver the IT aspects of the induction programme for staff and medical students, and ongoing training necessary for all staff.
  • Process applications for online access and proxy access, supporting patients where necessary.
  • Assist the IT Manager with recall administration.
  • Support the IT Manager with the installation and configuration of hardware and software.
  • Report to the IT Manager/ Practice Manager any significant events relating to the IT Systems.
  • To undertake all IT induction programmes for new employees ensuring all mandatory training has been completed.
  • To set up new user accounts, including smart cards, email, ICE etc and make amendments to current users and remove old users from all computer systems in place at the Practice.
  • Ensure backups are carried out to a regular schedule and that the backups are restorable.
  • Be able to use own initiative, prioritising work, within defined policies and procedures to set timescales.
  • Create and maintain professional relationships with Practice staff and external agencies.
  • To participate and ensure own ongoing development.
  • To maintain a high level of confidentiality and comply with GDPR. Be aware of the nature of information dealt with and work in a manner which ensures confidentiality and security.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • GSCE English and Maths - Grade C/ Level 4

Desirable

  • Additional IT qualification
  • Demonstration of commitment to professional and personal development.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience with using Microsoft Office 365.
  • Understanding of Confidentiality and Data Protection Act.
  • Previous experience working within an IT support role.

Desirable

  • Experience with using SystmOne.
  • Experience within GP Practice/ Primary Care.
