An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Data Warehouse Developer to join our dynamic Data Engineering Team within the IT Department at Milton Keynes Hospital.

The successful applicant will play a key role in design, develop, and maintain our data warehouse, ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of data as well as the development of the Azure Data Lakehouse used by the trust.

The ideal candidate will be confident with proven experience of data warehousing, SQL and Python or R programming preferably in a healthcare environment with excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Main duties of the job

The overall aim of this role is to support the Trust's data warehouse and help enable the effective use of data by Trust stakeholders such as information analysts, managers and clinicians to improve health care delivery at the Trust.

The responsibilities of the post-holder will be diverse and changing depending on the projects the team is working on. The team's core functions are to develop, maintain and enhance the Trust's data capabilities, to ensure the accuracy and robustness of central submissions and information on which the organisation operates

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • The post-holder will be required to work in a team responsible for the development, maintenance and performance of the data warehouse.
  • Take a lead in ensuring the Trusts data warehouse is appropriately maintained and updated to meet the specific needs of the Trust, as directed by the Database Warehouse Manager. This may include monitoring and analysing highly complex Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes and managing the Microsoft SQL databases.
  • Investigate and identify complicated database related issues and make suggestions for solutions and implement resolution if agreed with relevant change controls.
  • Develop connections to new databases and making data or connections available to systems as required.
  • Provide assistance with the timely daily processing of data into the data warehouse processes in a timely manner to allow the reporting of both clinical and management information to aid the smooth running of services and performance management.
  • The post holder will be responsible for developing the trust Data Platform in Microsoft Azure as well as managing the existing SQL Server data warehouse. Which includes developing and managing the Microsoft Azure pipelines, SQL Servers, Azure Synapse Analytics.

Person Specification

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential

  • Degree level or equivalent experience (relevant to role). Postgraduate qualification in relevant area or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of RDBMS concepts, database architecture and T-SQL.
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence systems and reporting tools.
  • Report writing skills preferably using Power BI.
  • Knowledge of Sql Server, Sql Server Integration Services, Sql Server Reporting Services
  • Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Azure Analysis Services
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office 365 suite especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of NHS and acute datasets.
  • Experience of Data science languages such as R or Python.

Desirable

  • Qualification in Project Management
  • ITIL certification
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure Platform.
  • Knowledge of patient and data flows in an hospital setting.
  • Experience of Azure DevOps Services, CI/CD pipelines.
