Job summary

The role of the Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners (TEMHPs) is to deliver short term low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) informed interventions for children and young people aged 5 -19 years with anxiety, low mood, common challenging behaviours, family and peer relationship difficulties, difficulty adjusting to change and transition or difficulty managing emotions in educational settings.

Trainee EMHPsmustundertake a Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Studies in the Education Environment. This training is 12months, and will take place atNorthumbriaUniversity (approx. 3 hours away from NE Lincs, travel is reimbursed). The course is due to start in October 2024.

You will initially commence on a Compass Grade which is equivalent to NHS Agenda for Change (AFC) Band 4 level. Upon successful completion of your training and qualification you will advance to a starting salary projected to be based on the equivalent of NHS AFC Band 5 scale.

Main duties of the job

You will have to demonstrate in your application that you have the ability to work at degree level or have an equivalent level of relevant experience, with a proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health. You should also have experience of working with children and young people and an understanding of the educational system in England is desirable.

Compass Go aims to:

  • Ensure children and young people access the right early help, in the right setting removing duplication and preventing CYP/families being bounced in-between services
  • Help children and young people (5-19 years) to manage their feelings, behaviours, thoughts, physical sensations so that they can better engage with their learning and education
  • Work alongside educational staff to embed Whole School Approaches at all levels

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of the education system in England
  • Knowledge of children and young people gained through academic study in child development, child wellbeing or mental health

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working with children and young people

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Ability to learn in a variety of settings and using a variety of learning methods
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to study as a self-motivated learner who can formulate their own progress towards learning objectives and negotiate pathways to achievement with supervisory teams
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Access to own transport or evidence of ability to commute efficiently between community venues
  • Ongoing commitment to maintain registration in core profession

Qualifications

Essential

  • Ability to study at degree level
  • Proven record of previous academic attainment
  • Good solid literacy and numeracy qualifications at a minimum of level 2
