Main duties of the job

Rainbows Hospice is currently seeking a Band 6 Nurse to join our Long-Term Ventilation and Step-Down Team, providing 1-2-1 care for babies, children and young people who have a range of complex needs including long term ventilation of either a tracheostomy tube (invasive) or via a face mask/nasal cannula (non-invasive). As part of the LTV and Step-Down Team, you will have the opportunity to work within the multidisciplinary team made up of a variety of skilled members including Music Therapists, Complementary Therapists, and our non-medical workforce team of ACPs. Rainbows Hospice is available for families all year, 24 hours a day, we therefore operate on a shift basis to provide the best possible service.

Here at Rainbows Hospice, we support the hospital to home transition for medically stable children & young people, requiring long term ventilation, who might otherwise need to remain on an intensive or high dependency care area through our Long-Term Ventilation and Step-Down Team.

About the role As a Rainbows Band 6 Nurse youll be responsible for providing excellent step-down, and long-term ventilation care and a high standard of nursing care in a family led environment. Some of the key responsibilities include (but not limited to): Empower families and community care packages to be competent and confident to meet the LTV and nursing care needs of the child or young person in preparation for going home. Lead a team of nurses and care team members on a day-to-day basis in the care of children and young people who have long term ventilation needs who are receiving step down care at Rainbows. To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care of children and young people with long term ventilation needs. Liaise with the consultants and respiratory teams at the hospital as well as the community teams in planning and providing care for the child or young person. Liaise with other professionals in the hospice, from the discharging hospitals and receiving community teams. Requirements As an experienced Band 6 Nurse, you'll need to be qualified RSCN/RN (Child Branch)/ RNLD/ RGN with post registration experience of working with babies, children, young people and/or adults with long term ventilation needs, and experience teaching junior staff and/or parents clinical skills. Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified RSCN/RN (Child Branch)/RNLD/RGN

  • Mentoring and preceptorship qualification

Experience

  • Minimum eighteen months post registration experience
  • Post-registration experience in long term ventilation
  • Experience with children/young people (0-25 years) with complex needs
  • Experience of teaching junior staff or parents clinical skills

Desirable

  • Experience of working with children/young people or adults with long term ventilation in a community setting
