Barnabas Medical Centre is a well-established forward thinking and friendly practice in Northolt, North-West London. Services are provided from a modern purpose-built premises. We have a good reputation and history of excellent staff retention.

We are a teaching practice for undergraduate medical students and there is the option for an applicant to be involved in teaching and training.

The applicant should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and provide high quality patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a GP to cover 6 to 8 clinical sessions and routine admin which would include a weekly duty doctor afternoon session. We have weekly protected clinical meeting and encourage all our team to participate openly in it.

About us

This SystmeOne surgery is situated in a purpose-built medical building with parking. We are a high scoring practice in both QOF/IIF and local enhanced services. An active member of our local PCN and also train Bart students in house. We are a two partner practice with a support staff of 3 salaried GPs, 4 Nurses, a clinical pharmacist, pharmacy technician, medical secretary, in house phlebotomy and an excellent admin of 11 serving just over 9000 patients.

Job summary:

To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract. Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

Induction Training

On arrival at the practice all new personnel are to complete a practice induction programme. This is managed by the practice manager.

Learning and Development

The effective use of training and development is fundamental to ensuring that all staff are equipped with the appropriate skills, knowledge, attitude and competences to perform their role. All staff will be required to partake and complete mandatory training as directed by the training coordinator, as well as participating in the practice training programme. Staff will also be permitted (subject to approval) to undertake external training courses which will enhance their knowledge and skills, progress their career and ultimately enable them to improve processes and service delivery.

Collaborative Working

All staff are to recognise the significance of collaborative working. Teamwork is essential in multidisciplinary environments. Effective communication is also essential and all staff must ensure they communicate in a manner which enables the sharing of information in an appropriate manner.

Service Delivery

Staff at Barnabas Medical Centre must adhere to the information contained within practice policies and regional directives, ensuring protocols are adhered to at all times. Staff will be given detailed information during the induction process regarding policy and procedure.

Security

The security of the practice is the responsibility of all personnel. Staff must ensure they remain vigilant at all times and report any suspicious activity immediately to their line manager. Under no circumstances are staff to share the codes for the door locks with anyone and they are to ensure that restricted areas remain effectively secured.

Professional Conduct

At Barnabas Medical Centre staff is required to dress appropriately for their role. The clinical staff must dress in accordance with their role.

Leave

All personnel are entitled to take leave. Line managers are to ensure all of their staff are afforded the opportunity to take a minimum of 5 weeks leave each year and should be encouraged to take all of their leave entitlement.

Primary Responsibilities:

The following are the core responsibilities of the salaried GP. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population

The provision of services commensurate with the PMS contract

Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance

Effective management of long-term conditions

Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks

On a rotational basis, undertake duty doctor roles

Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance

Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload

Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process

Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice

Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF

Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required

Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including; clinical governance, training, financial management and HR

Ensure compliance with the appraisal process

Prepare and complete the revalidation process

Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team

Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines

Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure

Review and adhere to practice protocols and policies at all times

Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times

Secondary Responsibilities:

Participate in practice audits as requested by the audit lead

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e. root cause analysis (RCA)

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience in NHS primary care essential
  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration (MRCGP)
  • Be on the NHSE medical performers list
  • Annual appraisal and revalidation (when appropriate)

Desirable

  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration (MRCGP)
  • Knowledge of TTP SystmeOne
  • Microsoft Office
