We are wishing to recruit a Paediatric Nurse/Clinical Practitioner at St Charles Urgent Care Centre (UCC).

This is an exciting time to join our Nurse/ Clinical Practitioner Led Urgent Care/ Walk in Services, as we restructure how we deliver high quality care to the Paediatric population.

As a highly valued member of our team, the quality of care we provide starts with you. There is opportunity for flexible working, with a variety of shift patterns across the week and opportunity to work across our other services. We pride ourselves on our ACP/ENP's being up to date with the latest evidenced-based practices as well as being supportive of our staff in their professional development.

St Charles Urgent Care Centre, See's both Paediatric & Adult patients. On average we see 250 children a month between the ages of 2-16 years. X-ray facilities on site.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a highly motivated Paediatric Nurse/ Paediatric Clinical Practitioner with experience of working autonomously in a community and/ or emergency care setting. Paediatric minor injuries experience is highly desirable but not essential as training can be supported.

The UCC see's both Paediatric & Adult patients. Part of the role will involve occasional cross-cover working. We ensure that all our practitioners work only within their scope of practice and will offer training and support for the Paediatric trained practitioner to feel empowered to work in an area which serves both children & adults.

Person Specification

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • Registered Paediatric Nurse with current NMC registration
  • MSc in Advanced Assessment or equivalent

Desirable

  • Independent Prescriber (or on pathway to complete)
  • Qualification in teaching or practice-based learning
  • University accredited Minor injuries Module.

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience of utilising expert diagnostic and clinical skills to provide autonomous, unscheduled medical care and management of patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions
  • Experience in working autonomously in an emergency or other unscheduled care environment or working autonomously within a GP surgery
  • Proven ability to prioritise and manage own workload with minimal supervision
  • Experience of effectively working in collaboration, negotiating and liaising across organisational boundaries
  • Experience in monitoring clinical standards

Desirable

  • Experience of team / service/ staff management
  • Experience of implementing evidence-based care and developing others to do so
  • Experience of conducting research projects and audit.
  • Experience of change management and implementing change in practice

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Competent in physical examination of patients from 0-16 years.
  • Able to work autonomously, planning and prioritising own workload and that of others.
  • Able to delegate work effectively and safely.
  • Able to deal with conflict and manage appropriately
  • Able to manage difficult situations and address poor practice
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Able to identify own and other's learning and development needs and actively seek ways to meeting those needs.
  • Basic IT skills including use of Microsoft Office package and email
  • Specialist knowledge in clinical reasoning, history taking, physical examination, diagnostic skills and prescribing/treatment
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology of body systems
  • Clinical knowledge across a range of long-term conditions.
  • Knowledge of current NHS organisational structures and policy initiatives
  • Knowledge of monitoring service outcome measures.
  • Knowledge of adult and children's safeguarding procedures.
  • Knowledge of current health care policy and legislation and relevance to the delivery of healthcare service.
  • Knowledge of the audit process and able to implement in practice.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice and able to implement in practice
  • Knowledge of clinical governance processes, assessing and managing risk

Desirable

  • Able to lead and motivate a team and implement change
  • Ability to make formal presentations to a wide range of people
  • Knowledge of resource management
