Colorectal and Urology

We are looking for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist, with a specialist interest in Colorectal (CRC) and Urological Cancers.

You will join a dynamic team of Oncologists that deliver a comprehensive Oncology service to a population of over 800,000 people in Staffordshire and South Cheshire.

Main duties of the job

UHNM Cancer Centre at Royal Stoke Hospital provides world class, patient centred, specialised cancer services to the population of Staffordshire, South Cheshire and part of Shropshire.

All inpatient, day case, the majority of the outpatient clinics and Radiotherapy are delivered within a purpose-built centre which opened in July 2009. We see approximately 2000 new patients per year with a geographical catchment area of approximately 800,000 population.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly regarded team, working in collaboration with existing Consultants and within a wider multi-professional team.

You will be part of a team of 13 Consultant Oncologists which include 10 Clinical Oncologists and 3 Medical Oncologists together with 14 Consultant Clinical Haematologists.

The post is based at the University Hospital of North Midlands Cancer Centre. Clinical duties will be across both the Royal Stoke Hospital site predominantly and 1 day at County Hospital site.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • Possession of MRCP and FRCR or equivalent qualification in medical oncology
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT - proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview oCESR or oEuropean Community Rights oAn appropriate higher surgical qualification

Desirable

  • oMD or PhD

Clinical Effectiveness

  • oExperience of conducting clinical audit.
  • oAbility to use the evidence base and clinical audit to support decision-making.

Academic Achievements

Essential

  • oAbility to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
  • oAn awareness of current speciality specific developments, initiatives and issues.
  • oEvidence of training in research methodology

Desirable

  • oPublications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the last five years.
  • oEvidence of having undertaken original research
