Job summary

Touchstone is a partner within Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service (LMWS). LMWS deliver a service that is patient focused and evidence based for people with Common Mental Health Disorders. LMWS are recruiting for several qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners across the partnership. The post holder will be responsible for the screening of referrals into the service via the online platform, telephone and face to face appointments. The post holder will deliver evidence based low intensity interventions including classes and groups, computerised CBT and 1-1 guided self-help.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This is a qualified post within Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service. The post-holder will work within Leeds Mental Wellbeing service providing high volume low intensity interventions. The post holder will provide a range of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self-management interventions to service to clients with mild to moderate common mental health problems.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The post holder will be responsible for the screening of referrals into the service via the online platform, telephone and face to face appointments. The post holder will deliver evidence based low intensity interventions including classes and groups, computerised CBT and 1-1 guided self-help.

CLINICAL

1. Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.

2. Assess and supports people with a common mental health problem in the self-management of their recovery.

3. Undertakes patient centred interviews which identifies areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and makes an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.

4. Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the departments referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary or steps-up the persons treatment to high intensity.

5. Provide a range of information and support for evidence based high volume low intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided self help computerised CBT, psycho-educational classes, information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone or via other media.

6. Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary. .

7. Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.

8. Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.

9. Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.

10. Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.

11. Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.

12. Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process.

PROFESSIONAL

1. Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g. NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence).

2. Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times.

3. Be aware of and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of treatment for common mental health problems.

4. Ensure clear objectives are identified, discussed, and reviewed with senior therapists on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.

5. Attend clinical/managerial supervision on a regular basis as agreed with Manager.

6. Participate in individual performance review and respond to agreed objectives.

7. Keep up to date all records in relation to continual professional development and ensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.

8. Attend relevant conferences / workshops in line with identified professional objectives.

GENERAL

1. To provide information and advice about Touchstones services to managers, teams, and other people/agencies with an interest in the organisation's work.

2. To undertake out of hours work as required by the service.

3. To be inducted, supervised, performance managed and appraised in line with the organisations performance management policies and procedures.

4. To be responsible for personal learning and development where appropriate and undertake training, both mandatory and optional, to increase knowledge, skills and awareness.

5. To be aware of and implement the general practices of Touchstones Health, Safety and Security policies and keep Managers informed about any serious and untoward incidents, safeguarding issues, health & safety concerns, financial issues, staff welfare.

6. To operate within the aims, policies and practices of Touchstone at all times and to be committed to and promote the organisations equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory policies.

7. To ensure information is dealt with in accordance with Touchstones policies around Confidentiality, Communications, Internet, Email and Telecommunications and steps are taken to ensure that confidential information is secure e.g. service user data.

8. To undertake any other duties as directed by the Manager, in line with the responsibilities of this post.

9. To contribute to the development of best practice within the service.

10. To maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies, and procedures in relation to Talking Therapies.

12. To work with managers and colleagues to identify manage and minimize risks within the Talking Therapies Team and organizational risk management frameworks.

13. To contribute to the delivery of national and local priorities as set out in the Talking Therapies Teams corporate objectives.

14. To use the Community Information System to input and retrieve information appropriate to the care of individuals on caseload and to develop a basic competency in the use of it to an agreed standard (i.e. the European Computer Driving License).

15. To work across the city, as required, to meet service demand.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrate the ability to recognise the signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression and how these conditions may present themselves in Primary Care.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health.
  • Knowledge and ability to deliver High Volume Low Intensity evidenced based interventions both in a face to face and class-based settings, in line with IAPT prescribed protocols.
  • Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
  • Demonstrates a sound knowledge of IAPT services / outcome measures and the stepped care model.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems.
  • Knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health

  • Excellent organisational skills to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication.

  • Experience in other areas of mental health provision (in addition to IAPT).

Qualifications

Essential
