An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the senior nursing team as Matron within the Directorate of Cardiology. We are really interested, not just in your clinical excellence, but also your ability to be a visible, optimistic and compassionate leader who will develop staff by understanding their needs and aspirations. You do not need to be an expert in the field of Cardiology because you will be working as part of a team of experts. We would like you to help us by bringing your fresh perspective; and ideas; actively contributing and adding your voice to further improve collaborative working across the clinical areas.

As a highly visible role, the post provides a high level of support to the ward sister/manager, staff and clinical team working in terms of people and organizational development i.e. workforce strategy, performance management, staff development and so on.

Main duties of the job

Effective communication, a strong collaborative approach and ability to engage the nursing workforce and multidisciplinary team within an ever changing and challenging environment is essential.

You will require strong leadership skills and be an enthusiastic, motivated, experienced nurse who is able to make a positive difference to your teams. The ability to quickly build strong working relationships with the Matrons and Cardiology group will be essential to take our demanding Cardiology and Nursing agenda forward.

The post holder will be the key clinical leader ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice and clinical care is delivered to patients.

1.The post holder will provide professional leadership and management to all accountable staff' including recruitment, appraisal, continual professional development and disciplinary matters in order to provide a patient focused service.

2.Accountable for service delivery, including clinical standards, management of clinical risk, incidents and complaints - liaising with other agencies as appropriate and playing a pro-active role in quality improvement and supporting research.

3.Responsible for nursing budgets and effective management of resources.

4.Responsible for service development relating to the Cardiology department, nursing and in accordance to national recommendations and standards.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current RN with NMC
  • Masters Degree in nursing or working towards a Masters degree or willingness to undertake, or equivalent.
  • Leadership course / training

Desirable

  • RCA / investigation training

Experience
