Consultant Haematologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Consultant post within Haematology department to join our team at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. Haematology sits within the Cancer & Diagnostics division of the Trust.

The post will provide an excellent opportunity to expand and develop the care of those with Haematological conditions in the Trust's catchment area, both malignant and non-malignant diseases processes.

The post holder is encouraged to develop his/her own sub-specialty interest. This can be discussed at the interview. See the Job Description for current lead roles . The post will be based at the East Surrey hospital; however the post holder will be expected to work across the two hospital sites (East Surrey and Crawley).

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be mainly focused on meeting the needs of the acute hospital setting undertaking inpatient and outpatient work. The post holder will equally share a 1 in 6 on-call rota with other consultant colleagues. There are 6 Haematology CNSs and 1 Physician Associate who provide follow up clinics, telephone advice lines and support the junior doctors and nursing staff. The lead Haematology CNS is also the Clinical Lead.

The Trust has an Advanced Chemotherapy Clinical Nurse Specialist, an Advanced Clinical Practitioner for Haematology SACT and a well-established Chemotherapy Team to support both Chemo inpatients and outpatients.

The laboratories at both hospitals are managed within the Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services NHS partnership network that serves an overall population of around 2 million; ASPH is the network hub for specialist coagulation services.
