The Respiratory Support and sleep centre (RSSC) is a regional weaning unit and provider of domiciliary ventilation and cough augmentation. The delivery of PR service is also provided by this team and has referrals from many different specialties. Currently the PR service is delivered virtually and face to face simultaneously.

The post holder will be supported by a Band 7 Physio Team Lead and a Band 8 Physio Medical Service Lead and you will work in conjunction with a rotational Band 5 Physio and a Band 4 Physio assistant practitioner.

Candidates should:

Have a BSc, MSc or Grad Dip in Physiotherapy, be HCPC registered

Be able to provide a comprehensive Physio service to patients with a wide range of respiratory and neuromuscular conditions

Have experience in and be able to build on existing Physio skills in cough augmentation, ventilator weaning and Pulmonary Rehab required to manage our patient groups.

Main duties of the job

Use advanced clinical reasoning skills to assess and treat complex patients

Support the RSSC team and the pulmonary rehabilitation service

Attending RSSC and pulmonary rehab related regional meeting

Collaboration with wider MDT to enhance patient pathways

Involvement in audit, research, and service improvement projects

Mentoring colleagues and physio students

Supporting colleagues to advance their clinical reasoning skills to achieve rotational goals and/or advanced RSSC competencies

Providing teaching to physio colleagues and the wider RSSC MDT

Attend department management meetings and work closely with Team Leads and Deputy Team Leads to coordinate service provision

Exploring opportunities to provide teaching outside the Trust

Seeking out CPD opportunities ie.conferences and courses

Experience

  • Demonstrate Band 6 level Physiotherapy knowledge and experience managing cardiorespiratory patients independently (including respiratory / neurorespiratory medicine)
  • Experience of rehabilitation in complex patients including those requiring long-term ventilation
  • Experience of delivering a Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise own and team workload and delegate effectively to others
  • Experience of on call and weekend working
