Job summary

Working as a Healthy Lifestyle Advisor on ABLs specialist weight management programme you will be working with children, young people and their families to support, motivate and advise those who are currently obese. You will be passionate about working with individuals to begin the life changing processes necessary for permanent and continued weight loss and weight maintenance.

You will be joining a large team of behaviour change specialists in ABL Health including specialist lifestyle coaches, nutritionists, dietitians, GPs, psychotherapists and exercise specialists to deliver evidence based, holistic and realistic weight management to people in the community.

You will understand challenges and barriers that Children, Young People and Families face with relation to their health (both physical and mental) and wellbeing. You will engage with and build a good rapport with Children, Young People and Families from varying communities across Nottinghamshire.

Main duties of the job

You will deliver our existing programmes of weight management as well as supporting the development of new nutrition and exercise programmes that meet the needs of our clients. The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and delivering motivational change which is client centered. You will have a background in nutrition, exercise, public health, community health or adult and/or family weight management and be an excellent team player and have a willingness to learn and develop.

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver ABL Healths Children and Young Peoples weight management programme including nutrition, behaviour change and exercise delivery to groups and though one-to-ones, in the community and through digital methods such as zoom/phone appointments.
  • Lead on the delivery of multi-disciplinary assessments working closely with ABLs GP and Psychotherapist to determine an appropriate, person centred care plan.
  • Deliver evidence-based education around nutrition, physical activity and behavioural change as advised by ABL Health team and in line with ABL Health programme curriculums.
  • Deliver programmes with a client centred approach using skills of positive psychology and motivational interviewing.
  • Monitor clients progress through regular consultation and with the use of Microsoft excel, identifying specific treatment for those not on track to achieve their goals.
  • Work with clients and stakeholders to co-produce in session materials
  • Contribute to the contract performance report by submitting regular case studies to the project lead.

Contribute to and support ABL Healths social media pages.

  • Contribute to training and support new staff and volunteers.
  • Working with individuals and groups using SMART goal setting
  • Keep detailed files, recording data accurately, ensuring all forms and other documentation is completed correctly.
  • Undertake and complete all mandatory and additional skills training as required.
  • Have a thorough understanding of ABL Health policies and procedures.
  • Engage and recruit potential clients at promotional and community events.
  • Develop curriculum resources to be signed off by the service development team and utilised in projects.
  • Contribute to ongoing service development needs.
  • Build community links and partnership working to encourage new referrals into the service and maintain close working relationships with other community services. Present service and referral pathway information at stakeholder meetings as directed by the Head of Service

  • Attend meeting and present the service model and outcome to potential stakeholders. You will cultivate and manage relationships with stakeholders across the service delivery footprint.
  • To attend and actively participate in team and wider company meetings, such as MDT.
  • Be able to organise own workload in order of priority and deadline dates, daily administration tasks and other work-related activities.
  • To demonstrate personal and professional development in line with ethos of lifelong learning
  • To work within the framework of clinical governance in order to maintain and improve patient care, quality and efficiency.

To be able to travel flexibly across the project area.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or relevant equivalent experience.
  • CIMSPA (previously REPS) qualified Level 2 Gym instructor/Group exercise award or equivalent.
  • Registration with CIMSPA (this can be obtained within 6 months of employment).

Desirable

  • Sports Coaching qualification.
  • Degree in nutrition and/or eligible to be registered as an associate or full member of the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists/ or degree OR in exercise, psychology, public health, other health related field.
  • REPS qualified Level 3 award of GP/Exercise Referral or equivalent (willingness to be trained within 4 months of starting).

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly with people.
  • Excellent administration, record keeping and data collection skills.
  • IT literate, preferably with experience using Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Must have a high attention to detail.
  • Pro-active approach and ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations and cope in a fast paced work environment.
  • To cope with unpredictable work patterns and work well under pressure.
  • To be able to work as part of a team and independently as required.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of safeguarding.
  • Experience of delivering parenting programmes.
  • Experience of contributing to the supervision of staff/ volunteers/ students.
  • Experience of developing public health educational materials.
  • An understanding of different social media platforms.
  • An understanding of how social media can support positive behaviour change.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with Children and Young People and facilitating 1:1 and group workshops in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
  • Experience of delivering groups and/or one-to-one behaviour change with Children and Young People.
  • Experience of delivering health promotion / public health interventions in community settings.
  • CIMSPA (previously REPS) qualified Level 2 Gym instructor/Group exercise award or equivalent.
  • Registration with CIMSPA (this can be obtained within 6 months of employment).
  • Experience working with hard to reach groups and tackling health inequalities.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Previous paid or voluntary experience working with people.
  • Experience of building professional relationships

Job Specific Requirements

  • The ability to travel independently across the organisational footprint.
