Job summary

Are you looking for the opportunity to support improving people's lives through good nutrition, focusing on prevention and improving the health and wellbeing of future generations.

You will be delivering training to the public on healthy eating on a budget. You will also up-skill community practitioners and volunteers working with families and children in food and nutrition. This will enable them to support population improvements in diet and enable children to have the best start in life. You will be a key part of the Nutrition Skills for Life team and supporting community nutrition initiatives.

This is a key service to support Wales with its 'healthier weight; healthier Wales initatives.

The post holder will contribute to the provision of high-quality food and nutrition education and capacity building as part of the Nutrition Skills for Life programme within ABUHB. They will participate in the achievement of the Health Board's mission and quality objectives by providing high quality, safe, efficient and effective Nutrition/Dietetic services within available resources and in accordance with their registration and Code of Practice of the BDA/ Association for Nutrition (UKVRN).

Applicants must be dietitians registered with the HCPC or graduate Nutritionists registered with Association for Nutrition.

Main duties of the job

Deliver accredited nutrition courses for community-based staff and volunteers working with a range of groups. This involves the recruitment, planning, implementation and evaluation of courses to ultimately benefit service users.

Work as a member of the Public Health Dietetics team and within multi-agency teams liaising with and advising others in relation to specific client's needs by implementing food and nutrition (level 2) course delivery

Use Public Health Nutrition/ Dietetic knowledge and skills, underpinned by current evidence-based practice, to help manage delivery of accredited nutrition programmes in partnership with members of the Dietetic Service and multiagency teams as appropriate.

Provide effective planning, implementation and evaluation of accredited courses ensuring individuals access accurate nutrition messages and seek advice/refer/signpost to alternative professionals, agencies and services as appropriate.

Work closely with service users, carers and families; demonstrate empathy with service users, carers, families and colleagues to ensure that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.

Use motivational skills to work with groups / carers to engage them in adopting healthier eating practices, working with families / carers / others to offer support where appropriate

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Recognised qualification degree/equivalent in Dietetics/Nutrition
  • HCPC registered dietitian or equivalent Registered Nutritionist - UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN
  • Understanding of factors influencing local population
  • Ability to plan tasks, priority setting and meeting deadlines
  • Evidence of excellent oral & written communication skills

Desirable

  • Evidence of experience working with a range of patients as dietetic / nutritonist student
  • Evidence of applying presentation / teaching skills into practice

Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of CPD e.g. portfolio
  • Demonstrates an understanding of community work
