We have an opportunity for you to join to our team in providing a high quality and respected clinical pharmacy service within ESNEFT to cover maternity leave until June 2025.

Based at Colchester Hospital you will separate your time to provide clinical pharmacy activity at ward level and all required Education and Training aspects of the job description. Cross site collaboration with Ipswich pharmacy colleagues will be required to ensure consistency of practice and a uniform approach to the development of our staff.

This post is full time however we would accept up to 37.5 hours per week.

Our friendly pharmacy team are dedicated to nurturing, mentoring and developing our staff to reach their full potential. We support personal development plans, smart objective setting and opportunities for study.

ESNEFT is about to embark on a full site wide implementation of the EPIC electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing and administration and pharmacy stock control system replacement.

In addition to our fully automated dispensaries, we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and the Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (including a brand new Aseptic facility).

Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please ensure you have discussed this with your line manager.

About our Pharmacy Service

Main duties of the job

Assisting the department in providing a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to patients within East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT).

Leading on all education and training activities on the Colchester site and any other relevant cross-site education and training activities within the Pharmacy department at ESNEFT.

Developing, delivering and maintaining locally-based education and training schemes for all grades of pharmacist and clinical technician staff.

Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal and cost effective use of medicines at ward level; minimising drug wastage accordingly.

Taking the lead on the ongoing mentoring and coaching of junior pharmacists and trainee pharmacists throughout their Clinical Diploma and Foundation Trainee studies.

Further support will be offered to help facilitate progression to becoming an Independent Prescriber (if not already achieved).

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous extensive hospital experience inclusive of Clinical Pharmacy practice
  • Demonstrated experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Handling of high risk medicines
  • Previous experience of educating and training other staff

Desirable

  • Previous experience of mentoring Clinical Diploma and Foundation Trainee Pharmacists

Qualifications

Essential

  • GPhC Registered
  • Masters Degree plus Pre-registration training
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice or clinical equivalent

Desirable

  • Non-Medical Prescribing qualification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Computer Literacy
  • Medicines Management
  • Good knowledge of Education and Training tools and processes
  • Good all-round clinical knowledge in other areas and practical skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the issues relevant to the local and national Non-Medical Prescribing agenda
