Position: Consultant Dermatologist

Organisation: Northwest Diagnostic & Treatment Services (Dr G Wilkinson & Partners)Location: Manor House Surgery, Manor Street, Glossop, SK13 7DE

Employment Type: Part-Time, self-employed

Hours: minimum of 2 half day sessions per month but willing to increase as required

Start Date: Immediate

Salary: Extremely generous remuneration, dependent upon experience

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will lead and provide consultant supervision to a team of GPwER in dermatology who will run parallel clinics and will be supported by a full strength of administrative staff.

Provide expert dermatological consultations and treatments to patients of all ages.

Diagnose and manage a wide range of skin conditions and chronic and acute dermatological issues including low risk BCC (High risk BCCs, SCC and Melanoma are automatically referred to secondary care).

Perform dermatological procedures and surgeries as necessary.

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive patient care.

Stay updated with the latest advancements in dermatology and contribute to continuous improvement in clinical practices.

Roles & Responsibilities

To provide general dermatology advice and treatment to a broad range of dermatological conditions including but not limited to (as per service specification):

Warts

Vitiligo

Alopecia

Other mild to moderate inflammatory skin disorders/nail and scalp disorders/infections and infestations

Mild to moderate acne, eczema, psoriasis

Pruritus/pruritus ani

Actinic Keratosis

Bowens disease

Moderate to severe acne, eczema, psoriasis (not responding to first line treatment)

Benign lesion cryotherapy

Urticaria

Moderate inflammatory skin disorders/nail and scalp disorders/infections and infestations not well controlled by GP

Rashes/lesions of diagnostic uncertainty

AKs/Bowens where size/site mean GP providing extended minor surgery not comfortable removing

Benign lesions/ lumps and bumps causing significant disfigurement/discomfort

Systemic illnesses relating to skin disorders

Severe conditions with diagnosis in doubt

Acne requiring oral isotretinoin

Dermatological conditions of genitalia

Photosensitive rashes

Conditions requiring systemic therapy (e.g. some severe psoriasis/eczema)

Allergic contact dermatitis

Conditions excluded from community dermatology:

Suspicion melanoma/SCC/High risk BCC

Erythroderma

Conditions requiring light/biological therapies (e.g. some severe psoriasis/eczema)

PUVA/PUVB

Immuno-suppressed patients with possible skin cancer

2 week wait referrals

To work independently and autonomously, in community clinics to the required standards of Dr Wilkinson & Partners (without assistance or supervision)

To undertake any administrative duties that may be necessary for speedy progression of patients and patient results.

To actively develop, participate and contribute in matters concerning clinical governance, relevant programs of clinical audit and assessment

To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD)

To adhere to company policy, rules and procedures of Dr Wilkinson & Partners including health and safety, data protection and confidentiality

To give full co-operation in any investigations of a complaint or untoward incident and comply with company procedure to that effect

To monitor and respond appropriately to changes in a patients clinical status

To deliver appropriate and individualised patient care at all times

To act as a specialist, giving expert and highly specialised advice to a range of professions, including all levels of nursing and medical staff as necessary

To carry out all techniques as an unsupervised independent practitioner

The post-holder will analyse complex information that may be technical and / or clinical, using best current scientific opinion, to interpret data and make autonomous decisions on how best to act

To liaise with external and internal support networks for the various database systems used within the Department

To ensure that professional and technical knowledge/expertise is kept up to date and to maintain a portfolio to show evidence of personal professional develop

To provide all necessary training and support to nurses, medical and administrative staff of all levels as required

To assist in managing the technical resources efficiently and effectively, ensuring the smooth running of a quality service to patients

To act at all times in a manner that upholds the values of Dr Wilkinson & Partners working as part of the team to ensure that patients and relatives receive excellent care with compassion

To uphold local policies to ensure the best use of available resources in terms of equipment and consumables to provide a cost effective, high quality service

Work with all members of the team to ensure efficient use of resources, manpower, space and equipment

To liaise with healthcare professionals and other agencies to ensure efficient delivery of services

To establish and maintain effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team

To maintain satisfactory personal performance and quality standards and to achieve, where possible, objectives agreed in the appraisal system

To ensure professional regulatory and accreditation requirements are maintained

To maintain accurate / legible patient records

Communication skills may be required in a wide range of situations

To maintain full conversance with current training curricula

To actively participate in maintaining own professional development, identifying own educational and clinical training needs

Suitability

In order to be a suitable candidate, you must have the following:

  • CCT holder in dermatology, full and specialist registration with GMC
  • Eligibility to reside and work in the UK
  • Ability to offer expert clinical advice and supervision to GPwER in dermatology
  • Ideally prior experience in working. Running community dermatology clinics
  • Demonstrate a commitment to your own professional development and have evidence of CPD (fully compliant file)

Essential

  • Full and Specialist registration and with a licence to practice with the General Medical Council GMC in Dermatology
  • Eligibility to reside and work in the UK
  • To be able to work independently in all main areas of Clinical dermatology
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on Dermatological conditions
  • Committed to developing the post in line with local guidelines and maintain an up to date service
  • Ability to organise and manage clinic lists
  • Demonstrate effective team working skills
  • Ability and willingness to work within the company performance framework and quality targets
  • Ability to lead dermatology clinic with the help of GPwER in dermatology and allied staff
  • Good interpersonal skills
