Job summary

The Trust is seeking a Trust grade doctor to join the Early Interventions Team (EIT) in Liverpool 0.65 WTE +0.35 Windsor House in patient unit.

The Early Intervention in Psychosis Service in Liverpool is recruiting a Trust grade doctor to work alongside an established team of professionals, supporting early assessment, management and recovery from psychosis over 3-year critical period. The post is with a well established team of 18 years, covering the South Central areas of Liverpool. The service has been rated as "performing well", achieving Level 3 in the 2023 National Clinical Audit of Psychosis.

Windsor House is a mixed ward with 15 male beds and 9 female beds. The consultant on the unit has RC responsibility for all patients on the ward detained under the Mental Health Act. On average there are approximately 5 admissions per week with around 4 discharges. About 25-50 per cent of the admitted patients are detained at any given time and there is on average one Mental Health Review Tribunal hearing each week.

Main duties of the job

This post will support the work of the South Liverpool Early Intervention Team Consultant and service who provide care for approximately 260 service users between the ages of 14 and 65, all of whom are managed within the CPA. Medical care for those under 16 is provided by CAMHS.

The role will involve assessment of those new to service with development of biopsychosocial management plans. The postholder will also undertake reviews of the care plans of service users over their 3 years with the service. The post holder will also support urgent reviews when service users mental health deteriorates, and if appropriately skilled, MHA assessments.

Clinical duties when available on the Windsor ward include:

  • Carrying out comprehensive psychiatric assessments and provide treatment for inpatients.
  • Conducting post admission reviews and MDT reviews for patients in a timely manner/assessment/ developing treatment plans and then planning safe discharge for the patients in timely and efficient manner
  • Preparing Tribunal reports for Mental Health Review tribunals and managers hearings
  • Providing verbal evidence to Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Manager's hearings.
  • Liaising with families / carers
  • Maintaining effective communication with other services, including in-patient and community mental health teams, and primary care
  • Ensuring discharge summaries and communications with primary care and other agencies that relate to patient care happen in timely manner

  • Support the Consultant psychiatrist in the team with their role

  • To conduct patient reviews and provide medical input into Multidisciplinary reviews, CPA reviews and multi-professional meetings.
  • To carry out comprehensive Risk Assessments and participate in Trusts risk management processes such as Health Risk Assessment and Management Meetings (H-RAMM) and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangement (MAPPA) Meetings.
  • Maintain high level of effective communication with other parts of the Mental health service across the Trust.
  • Liaison with families / carers.
  • Liaison with aspects of the Criminal Justice System regarding patients.
  • Liaising with other stakeholders and interested parties.
  • Participation in-house MDT training/education sessions
  • Participation in Research and Clinical Audit

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent
  • Additional clinical qualifications

Eligibility

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Minimum 3 years experience working in psychiatry

Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Transport

  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative

  • Ability to work constructively in and to lead a multidisciplinary team
