CONSULTANT IN ENDOCRINOLOGY/GIM (NPH)
The post holder will be based at Northwick Park Hospital.
Diabetes & Endocrinology Services
The diabetes and endocrinology service at Northwick Park Hospital sees approximately 1000 patients per month. There are sub-specialty clinics for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes clinics, transitional diabetes, transitional endocrine, antenatal, insulin pump therapy, radioiodine therapy, foot ulcers, endocrine disorders, general medical disorders, etc.
A full range of associated healthcare professionals are on site including dietitian, podiatrists, inpatient and outpatient specialist nurses, endocrine specialist nurses professionally managed by a cross site Diabetes Nurse Consultant.
The post holder will be expected to engage with the multidisciplinary team and will have the opportunity to take part in one of the sub-specialist clinics or to develop a subspecialty interest of their own.
General Internal Medicine
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the ongoing care of Endocrinology general medicine inpatients on a rotational basis. Whilst on the ward the post holder will undertake a daily morning ward round and morning board round Monday to Friday.
The postholder will be expected to contribute to the acute on-call rota covering emergency admissions and ambulatory care. This equates to four weekends in a year and time off in lieu is reflected in the job plan.
Main duties of the job
The Post
The post holder will be expected to undertake four clinics per week, but with clinic commitment reduced when allocated to covering inpatient care as consultant of the week. There is a standardised template for clinics in line with RCP guidelines. The post holder will be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest.
The post holder is expected to attend the MDT either in person or virtually. They will also contribute to the triaging of Endocrinology/Diabetes clinic referrals on the vantage system and to the review of ward referrals to the service.
The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the ongoing care of the general medicine patients at Northwick Park Hospital site on a rota basis and will also be involved in the provision of specialty endocrinology input to the medical admissions unit and Emergency Department.
The post holder will be expected to undertake supervision of junior doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team in addition to undergraduate teaching.
