We now have an exciting opportunity for an Educational or Clinical
Psychologist to become part of an outstanding and expanding CAMHS service. You
will grow your knowledge and skills by becoming part of a small team who assess
and diagnose Children and Young People with Neurodevelopmental Disorders. As a specialist
psychologist you will enhance a Multi-Disciplinary Pathway which involves, Paediatrics,
Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Early Help, Social Care,
and Nursing. Ideally you will already have experience of the assessment and
diagnostic process for children and young people with neurodevelopmental
disorders; training will also be available to enhance your skills.
A 7-8a preceptorship
would be considered for the right candidate.
The post holder will use their skills and knowledge to input into MDT
assessments and interventions for young people with potential
neurodevelopmental disorders across the age and ability range. The post holder
will be expected to work autonomously within their
professional guidelines as well as liaising closely with other professionals who
work with children and young people, their carers and their families. You will
provide consultation to other professionals and supervise less experienced
staff. You will offer clinical leadership in respect of psychological aspects
of the service, coordination and management, as agreed by the head of the
speciality. Undertake audit and research activities, take part in CPD and
training and contributes to service development.

Job description
Job responsibilities
To use their
skills and knowledge to lead on, and support, all aspects of neurodevelopmental
assessments with children and young people, and their families/carers.
To work
autonomously within their professional guidelines as well as liaising closely
with other professionals who work with children and young people, their carers
and their families.
To work
independently, as part of a team, and across teams, in partnership with
parents, education, social care, voluntary and other health professionals to
provide integrated care for clients, their families, carers and educators.
To exercise
full responsibility and autonomy for the assessment, support and discharge of a
case load of service users, and their carers and families.
To provide
specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other
professionals contributing directly to the child/young persons formulation,
diagnosis and treatment plan.
Offer regular
clinical supervision to less experienced staff.
Offer
clinical leadership in respect of psychological aspects of the service,
coordination and management, as agreed by the head of the speciality.
To meet
appropriate standards of practice in the quality and timeliness of the service
provided. The standards of practice will include meeting the standards defined
by the British Psychological Society (including the Division of Clinical
Psychology and the Division of Counselling Psychology where relevant) and
Navigo health and social care code of conduct.
To develop
and provide a range of specialist clinical psychology assessments and
interventions to vulnerable children and young people including Looked After
Children; children and young people who have mild to severe Learning
Disabilities; children who are at risk of contact with, or who have contact
with, the Youth Justice Service.
To formulate
and implement plans for the specialist psychological treatment and/or
management of children/ young peoples mental health and the presenting
problem(s), based upon the appropriate theoretical and conceptual framework of
the patients problems, via the employment of methods based upon evidence based
practice and efficacy.
To be responsible
for implementing a range of psychological interventions for children/young
people, carers, families and groups. Adjusting and refining psychological
formulations and drawing upon a range of theoretical perspectives and different
explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
To undertake
risk assessment and risk management for individual children/young people and to
provide general advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk
assessment and management.
To
communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the
assessment, formulation and treatment plans, and to monitor and evaluate
progress during the course of both uni-and multi-disciplinary care.

with the provision of placements to Trainee Clinical Psychologists (if a

service.

To ensure the
development, maintenance and dissemination of the highest professional
standards and practice, through the active participation in internal and
external CPD training and development programmes.
To ensure the
development and articulation of best practice in psychology within the service
area and contribute across the service by exercising the skills of a reflexive
and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional
supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current
developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines.
To maintain
the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data
entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of
professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice
of the Health Care Professions Council, the British Psychological Society and
Trust policies and procedures.
To maintain
up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in
relation to both the specific client group and mental health.
