Job summary

We are delighted to invite applications for a 6-12 month fixed term post as an Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. This post will join The Royal London's team of Emergency Medicine specialist clinical fellows. The posts can commence in August 2024 or Febrary 2025.

Our Clinical Fellow posts are intended to provide experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine in a major trauma centre. They are aimed at Emergency Medicine or Paediatric trainees, looking to gain further experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. We offer three different varieties of the Clinical Fellow programme:

  • Online learning with Don't Forget the Bubbles
  • Medical Education
  • Trauma

20% of the job plan is spent doing the Fellow's special programme activity, with the majority of the job being a middle-grade in our Paediatric ED.

Fellows will have 40 days per 12 months to be spent undertaking one of the special programmes (i.e. DFTB, Trauma, or Medical Education). Please see the job description for full details of the special programmes.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a highly motivated, consultant led team delivering high quality emergency care to East London. The department receives a full range of emergencies from the local area in addition to major trauma from North East London and Essex with a total of 180,000 patients seen each year including 40,000 paediatric patients.

The post includes registrar level duties in the paediatric emergency department working on a full shift rota. Clinical duties are supported by 24/7 consultant presence, senior training registrars and a team of junior doctors and practitioners.

Candidates must hold full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent degree
  • Full GMC registration
  • Up-to-date APLS certificate

Desirable

  • MCEM, MRCPCH or equivalent
  • FCEM or equivalent
  • Other postgraduate degree

Experience

Essential

  • 5 years of post-graduate clinical experience including F1 and F2 years or equivalent
  • 6 months of paediatric emergency experience

Desirable

  • 12 months of paediatric experience
  • Experience of designing educational programmes
  • Experience of teaching a range of audiences

Knowledge

Essential

  • Ethos of lifelong learning and a desire to continually gain and improve knowledge and skills
