About us

North Wood Group Practice provides care from two sites at Tulse Hill and West Norwood, South East London.

We provide care for a very diverse, inner-city local population. Including working closely with local nursing homes and are also commissioned to provide the specialist community- based diabetes service in Lambeth.

We are a 4 partners practice with 7 salaried GPs

5 practice nurses, a large Pharmacy team and 2 healthcare assistant.

16,000 patients

Training practice for GP registrars, F2 doctors and year 5 medical students

15 minute face to face appointments in order to offer our patients the best quality of care. Telephone Consultations are also offered

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • In accordance with the Practice rota, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Engaging with and complying with the collection of data for QOF and enhanced services in consultations and without, including the use of TEMPLATE software to enable this
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the locality prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • Inclusion in the practice on call rota, and home visit rota

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A medical practitioner whose name is included in the General Practitioner Register under article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003
  • Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983
  • Qualified General Practitioner (completed certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
  • Currently on a PCT performers list and not suspended from that list or from the medical register
  • CRB clearance
  • Have had an annual NHS appraisal

Desirable

  • Evidence of further postgraduate educational activities in relevant fields
  • MRCGP
  • DCH
  • DRCOG
  • RCGP Substance Misuse Certificate Level 1 or 2
  • F2 supervisor training/teaching diploma (this is essential for HDS)
  • DFSRFH & Competence in Coil insertion
  • Evidence of CPD activities
  • Minor surgery skills

Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience of working in general practice in the UK
  • Commitment to and experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary and skill mixed team environment
  • Experience of working to achieve standards within the Quality and Outcome Framework (QOF)

Desirable

  • Evidence of independent working in General Practice
  • Experience of supporting service change
  • Teaching of GP Reg/F2/Medical students/Nursing students
  • Accredited GP Registrar trainer or F2 Supervisor
  • Evidence of participation in QOF
  • Evidence of participation in Audit
