Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, compassionate and highly motivated Healthcare Support Worker to join our friendly Women's Health Team at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD). We provide a range of gynaecological services including minor elective surgical procedures, early pregnancy unit, and specialist women's health clinics.
This post is being advertised as a Band 3, however applicants that do not meet the required care certificate competencies will initially be employed as a Band 2. Applicants who hold a care certificate accreditation will start in post at Band 3.
The successful candidate will be expected to work across site (Bournemouth Hospital & Poole Hospital). However the main site for the successful candidate will be Bournemouth hospital.
Hours- 23 hours per week
Made up of long days (8:30-17:30, Early's 8:30-13:00 & late's 13:00-17:30)
Please note this role will include occasional weekend working.
Locations: Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospital

Qualifications
Essential
- Good standard of numeracy and literacy
- Completion of a competency-based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational level 3
Desirable
- Short courses to undertake patient and clinical care duties
Technical Skills Competencies /Knowledge
Essential
- Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative.
- IT literate
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Desirable
- Understanding of basic physiology e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements etc.
- Competent in setting up and maintaining sterile fields - be able to check sterility and handle instruments required for a procedure
- Diathermy- Electrosurgery competent
- Venepuncture
- Knowledge of care and related procedures, clinical observations, relevant legislation;
Experience
Essential
- Ability to adapt and learn in a health care environment
Desirable
- Previous experience of working within a care environment/NHS
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of working with the public
- Experience of working in gynaecology/outpatients
- Experience of independently following nursing algorithms
