An exciting role has arisen to work as a health representative in the Barnet Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), where you will work as part of a multi-agency team. The role will require you to collate and analyse health information in relation to risk of significant harm, contribute to multi-agency decision making to safeguard and protect children.

Main duties of the job

Represent Health and work as part of the MASH within Barnet.

Provide a seamless response to all safeguarding concerns to children's social care as part of the single point of access.

Be responsible for health input to the assessment, discussions and decisions made by the MASH team.

Proactively engage with health staff who deliver frontline services and provide specialist children's safeguarding information, advice, guidance, and support to promote the health and welfare of children.

Work with the Whittington Health (Barnet) Children Safeguarding Team to develop and implement the health systems and processes within the MASH and to ensure that there is an effective audit in place for monitoring the management of referrals requiring health input.

Collate qualitative and quantitative data on the workflow through MASH Health.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be part of a co-located multi-agency team including police officers, social workers, probation officers and others (housing, education).

Represent Health at any required subgroups and operational meetings.

Be supported by The Whittington Hospital NHS Trust Safeguarding Children Team including for safeguarding/child protection supervision and attending relevant childrens safeguarding meetings.

Have a clear understanding of and work within Whittington Healths safeguarding policies and guidelines.

Through liaison and dialogue identify, collate, and analyse the relevant health information to contribute to the multi-agency risk assessment.

Be required to maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and specifically health professionals from a wide range of services and disciplines.

Record, interpret and present health information and issues from a range of perspectives that can impact on the risk or needs assessment of children & young people. This may involve disclosing relevant information on the parents or carers to ensure the information is processed fairly and proportionately.

Contribute to the development and implementation of data collection systems andMASH protocols that will provide accurate and timely data safely and effectively with due regard to the UN convention for the rights of children, The Children Act 1989 and 2004 and the Human Rights Act, and within the bounds of patient confidentiality, GDPR and the Data Protection Act.

Be familiar with and work to the London Safeguarding Childrens Boards Child Protection Procedures, Working Together (2023) and current relevant legislation.

Explain clearly, and with sound rationale, highly complex safeguarding children information to a wide range of professionals.

Participate in the MASH multi-agency risk assessment to inform the case management, advising where necessary and challenging decisions when appropriate.

Liaise with health colleagues/other health agencies where necessary and to support their attendance at strategy meetings.

To actively gather, share information and participate in strategy meetings and other MASH safeguarding meetings.

Disseminate and communicate decisions and appropriate health information to relevant health professionals including the Named Nurse and/or Doctor where appropriate and for sharing best practice.

Identify service gaps and issues relating to effective clinical pathways and /or cross-boundary arrangements. Escalate evidence of ineffective safeguarding arrangements within or outside of the MASH.

Immediately report to the statutory Named Safeguarding Children Professionals and/or the Executive Safeguarding Children Lead when issues require escalation or where the case is likely to become subject to press or public interest.

Record appropriate information about health outcomes on the appropriate MASH recording system on a case-by-case basis.

Assist in the evaluation and analysis of the health contribution to the MASH process.

Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, services, and initiatives to provide, information and analytical advice and expertise.

The post holder will carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required by their line manager and be proactive in covering other aspects of the safeguarding childrens team workload.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Adult or Child) with current NMC registration
  • Specialist Public Health Practitioner, Registered Health Visitor or School Nurse with 3 years post qualification experience.
  • Educated to degree level.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Sound Knowledge of multi-agency working (children and families).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in safeguarding and protecting children to level 3.
  • Experience of managing risks and reporting and escalating concerns.
  • Experience of participating in safeguarding strategy meetings, case conferences, writing safeguarding reports and chronologies.
  • Sound Knowledge of legislation and policy, e.g. Children Act 1989, 2004, Data protection, NHS Confidentiality Guidance, Working Together and Pan London Child Protection Procedures.
  • Experience of holding child protection case load.

Desirable

  • Experience in providing safeguarding supervision and have knowledge the supervision process.
  • Experience of working in the MASH/or significant Safeguarding experience.
