Job summary

The catheter lab matron post holder will oversee nursing and quality within cath labs and Holly Suite. The catheter lab and Holly Suite day-ward complex is nationally regarded as a flagship facility which has attracted national and international interest over the last few years and served as model for the development of other leading cardiac centres.

It is an incredibly exciting time to join the team as we are currently undergoing a major redevelopment of our cath labs which will give us world class facilities, enhancing both our patient and staff experience and enabling us to support the changing patient demand and service innovation.

We are looking for an experienced senior registered professional with experience in influencing, leadership and management skills. You will need to be experienced within cath lab or a theatre setting in order to provide strong, consistent leadership and maintain good interpersonal relationships with your colleagues.

Main duties of the job

Act as a resource/advisor to all staff in the delivery of nursing care, ensuring that specialised needs of patients are met

Develop methods for identifying, maintaining and improving the quality of patient care through facilitation of best practice and clinical benchmarking

Ensure effective communication with staff, patients and their family/carers Liaise with nursing, medical and other colleagues to ensure that all aspects of the patients care is covered

Ensure that nursing care is based on sound, current research, encouraging and initiating nursing audit and research, assisting with the implementation of findings where appropriate

Ensure adherence to Trust and local policies, local guidelines and current legislation

Take the lead for nursing in cath lab and Holly Suite.

Providing leadership for the Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) service, streamlining the service and its efficiency.

Ensure that all complaints are dealt with promptly and satisfactorily taking corrective action and implementing action plans to avoid recurrence.

Contribute to the control of risk and use the incident reporting system to alert the Trust to incidents or near misses that may compromise the quality of services.

Develop services in conjunction with Head of Nursing and Quality Corporate Services , initiating and implementing any service improvements.

Jointly responsible for the development and planning of the departments workforce, with the Cath Lab Manager.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work in partnership with the senior leadership team across the multidisciplinary interface within Cath Labs and Holly Suite, taking lead responsibility for the nursing teams and quality within the areas. In addition the post holder will be a member of the divisional management team working with the Head of Nursing, Associate Medical Director and Divisional Head of Operations to ensure the division achieves its objectives.

The Matron will manage the delivery of all nursing aspects of agreed performance of the patient pathway. This will incorporate safeguarding and patient flow, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring the Trusts Nursing and Quality priorities are implemented within their areas responsibility.

Qualification and Education

Essential

  • Current level one NMC registration/ HCPC registration
  • Educated to Degree level.
  • Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience- ENB 998/Mentorship/ Teaching certificate.
  • Evidence of further professional relevant professional/managerial qualifications studies

Desirable

  • Masters level study Evidence of service development and Improvements Continuing professional development/reflective profile

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience includes managerial/leadership in cath lab or theatre.
  • Evidence of change management within clinical practice
  • Ability to lead change and new ways for clinical teams to work
  • Proficient in IT skills (e-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EPR).
  • Evidence of Service Improvement
