The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology service requires an Education and training lead and invite suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply.

The Education and training lead will be a key member of the SYBP management team and be responsible for ensuring there are training and career development opportunities for all staff . Working with the SYBP workforce lead and Discipline specific training leads the position will report to the Scientific Director.

The post holder will be required to identify and incorporate external funding opportunities to further the training and education of SYBP staff

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with the scientific Director :

1) Responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of training and education programs across SYBP, for all scientific, assistant scientific and administrative and clerical staff groups within the SYBP service

2) Management and control of training and competency provision in the most effective and clinically governable manner

3) Leadership of all Discipline specific Training Officers, providing direction and guidance in line with all SYBP training processes and standards

4) Direct line management of the SYBP Practice Educators.

5) Implementation and continued development of a high quality and effective training methods and procedures to include apprenticeship and academic progression routes as appropriate

6) In consultation with the scientific Director, be responsible for creating and maintaining a robust Training Lead/Training Officer workforce across the service representing and leading training in all areas and staff groups equitably.

7) Interpreting and implementing Departmental, SYBP, Host Trust, Local and National Training Policies, procedures and standards and ensuring suitable training systems and competency assessment mechanisms is in place

8) Stimulate and lead in new and innovative training methods to enable staff development and support growth of the workforce and services in SYBP. To actively seeking out new sources of funding and support for training schemes

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 2 years due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters level education: MSc in a relevant subject area or HCS Apprenticeship Level 7 or FIBMS or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma and Management/ Leadership qualification/ relevant short courses or equivalent experience in education field
  • Appropriate Post Graduate qualifications e.g., IBMS Higher Specialist diploma or IBMS Diploma in Biomedical Science or equivalent qualifying to specialist practitioner level in a relevant scientific discipline
  • BSc Hons level qualification in Biomedical Sciences, appropriately accredited by the IBMS
  • HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist or other Healthcare scientist or other health care professional
  • Proven evidence of continuing professional development as an Education professional

Desirable

  • Post Graduate Teaching Qualification
  • Train the Trainer qualification
  • IBMS Portfolio Verifier/Trainer (Certificate of Competence)
  • Holding or working towards a qualification that supports management responsibilities such as health and safety, training officer, or quality management associated with post
  • Fellow or associate member of the institute of biomedical sciences
  • Management or Project Management Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Significant Post HCPC registration experience in relevant discipline within a UKAS accredited laboratory
  • Significant Post HCPC registration experience in relevant discipline within an IBMS approved training laboratory
  • Experience of and involvement in UKAS accreditation assessments
  • Demonstrable experience at Advanced practitioner (AfC Band 7_ or equivalent senior level within NHS, college, or HEI setting
  • Experience of managing complex systems of work
  • Experience and highly specialised knowledge of a broad range of Pathology techniques and training programmes/ requirements / standards.
  • Experience of delivering high quality training at an appropriate level
  • Experience of developing and implementing training plans
  • Proven evidence of understanding of equality diversity and inclusivity in education approaches
  • Robust knowledge of learning principles/ theories and how these are applied to practice
  • Extensive knowledge of the current developments in the NHS in relation to training requirements
  • Demonstrable experience of learning needs analysis within very large organisations
  • Knowledgeable about maximising apprenticeship levy and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience of report writing and presentation skills
  • Experience of writing relevant laboratory documents and the use of Document control systems
  • Knowledgeable about funding routes and experienced in writing successful bids
  • Experience of Pathology IT systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of quality management systems including the principles and application of a quality management System.
  • Experience of project management
