Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity in our NHS Northamptonshire Talking Therapies service for an Employment Advisor (EA).

This is a new role in the service focused on providing support and advice to our service users to help them gain, return to or retain employment. You will work closely with clinicians and develop good working partnerships with a variety of stakeholders including employers, job centres, trade unions and employment agencies.

We are looking for creative and enthusiastic candidates to join our innovative team.

Main duties of the job

The principal role of the EA is to provide Information, Advice and Guidance to all NHS Talking Therapies clients who choose to receive employment support. The EA will work to empower the client to make better decisions about their working lives, communicate better with their colleagues and managers at work.

The EA is responsible for engaging with the client to establish the client's employment goals. The EA will work with the clinician and the client to produce a personalised action plan to ensure that psychological treatment and employment support are provided to support the individual to improve their mental health and meet their stated employment goals, which may be to improve their current employment or find alternative work.

The EA will work directly with Jobcentre Plus, Work & Health Programme providers, employers, trade unions and employment agencies to support people to stay in employment and secure employment opportunities.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 3 minimum or equivalent
  • Evidence of further study in vocational training, careers advice, job retention and presenteeism or equivalent experience gained through work in the field.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of providing vocational/employment support.

Desirable

  • Evidence of a good customer service background.
  • Experience of supporting people with MH conditions into vocational/employment activities.
  • Experience of working in a service where agreed targets are in place, demonstrating specific outcomes
  • Experience of assessing, planning and facilitating activities that focus on recovery and vocational skills.
  • Experience of working within a multi - disciplinary team
