Job summary

An exciting new opportunity has arisen within our friendly pharmacy department to join our team as a Specialist Pharmacist in Transplantation. The post holder will join an existing team of 1.5 WTE 8a pharmacists providing a service to patients both pre and post heart and lung transplantation.

You will be integral members of the transplant MDT, promoting medicines optimisation and providing expert advice. The post holder will have excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills, with a background in critical care, surgery or transplantation. Previous experience in leading a team and providing support to more junior staff is essential.

This is a part time post and we are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the multidisciplinary Transplant Team, to take a leading role in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients who have been referred for, are being bridged to, or have undergone heart or lung transplantation.

To promote safe prescribing practice and provide pharmaceutical advice to other members of the transplant team.

To monitor and analyse medicines expenditure within the transplant service, and to advise the manager and clinical lead responsible for transplant accordingly.

As a senior pharmacist, provide support, mentoring and training to junior pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. To play an active role in shaping the department, engaging in changing and developing practice as part of continuous improvement.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • M Pharm (or equivalent)
  • Registration with the GPhC
  • Independent prescriber
  • Post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy practice or equivalent

Desirable

  • Membership of RPS and/or UKCPA
  • Accreditation with RPS faculty
  • Post graduate MSc

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in either transplantation, surgery or critical care pharmacy services.
  • Experience of undertaking project and audit work
  • Experience of leadership
  • Experience of supervising, mentoring and teaching

Desirable

  • UKCPA introduction to critical care (or equivalent)
  • Leadership qualification or course attendance
