Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Physiotherapist to join the Neuro-Rehab team based at Colchester Hospital. There is one permanent role and one fixed term role (until 31st March 2025) available.

We are an established and respected multi-disciplinary outpatient and community team providing long-term management for people with a variety of neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Motor Neuron Disease and traumatic brain injury. The team consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, a Specialist Nurse, and Rehabilitation Assistants. We work closely with many other agencies including the voluntary sector to provide person centred care.

You will be an excellent communicator with knowledge and experience of working with people with neurological conditions/ community working.

The post is based in the Neurological Rehabilitation Department at Colchester General Hospital. Due to the community working and community clinics a car owner and driver is essential.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for providing specialist assessment, treatment, and advice to patients with highly complex conditions in primary and secondary care settings.

To carry out risk assessments and provide specialist advice to other members of the multi-disciplinary team as well as members of all other teams on specialist aspects of manual handling in relation to individual patient care and treatment of neurology patients.

To ensure appropriate integrated pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies both internal and external to the Trust as required.

To be competent to work as an autonomous practitioner managing own workload in neurology, including patients with highly specialist needs.

To participate in delivering specialist training and supervision of junior staff, assistants, and students.

To deputise for Clinical Leads in their absence.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oRegistered physiotherapist with HCPC
  • oProfessional knowledge and Skills acquired through a combination of formal training, short courses and experience to degree level or equivalent
  • oRelevant post qualification training through short courses and/or further study and experience for example splinting and injections, working towards post graduate level of study

Desirable

  • oRegistered member of Chartered Society of physiotherapy
  • oRecognised registered qualification and further courses and experience relevant to role

Experience

Essential

  • oSubstantial post registration experience working at Band 5 level in core rotations e.g. Musculoskeletal, Neurology, Respiratory
  • oCompetencies relevant to specialism
  • oExperience of working within a multidisciplinary / interdisciplinary team

Desirable

  • oExperience of working as a Band 6
  • oExperience of research/audit methodology
