An exciting opportunity has arisen to enable you to train as an Apprentice Radiographer working in a busy and forward thinking radiology department.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to join our team as an apprentice radiographer working with and supporting radiographers. This is a role that will see you working alongside a multidisciplinary team whilst you train to become a radiographer.

This apprenticeship will run in conjunction with the University of Exeter and will require you to study whilst working in the department.

Apprentices must also have a valid and eligible residency status to gain entry onto the apprenticeship --please see theESFA guidance for further information.

On completion of the apprenticeship you will gain a MSci in Medical Imaging.

Main duties of the job

The Apprentice will be based in the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Musgrove Park Hospital and will rotate through peripheral sites. The post holder will be expected to take part in the extended working day and 7 day rotation system.

Apprentices will be workplace based for four days (30 hours) per week and 1 day (7.5 hours) will be protected study time.

Attendance of training delivered as e-learning and face to face with the associated HEI is considered to be essential and annual leave must be arranged outside these sessions.

The post holder will fulfil all tasks and work as part of a team responsible for providing an efficient imaging service in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

To meet the needs of the service, the post holder may be required to work in other areas and hospitals as appropriate, as directed by the line manager. It may be necessary to attend other Imaging Departments to gain sufficient experience in some modalities.

Job responsibilities

To work within the Radiology department as an Apprentice radiographer under the Diagnostic Imaging Degree Apprenticeship programme.

To work under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner.

This is a training post and progression through all levels will be expected in accordance with the assessment criteria managed by the HEI providing training.

You must hold an upper second-class (2:1) honours degree (BSc or BEng) or equivalent to access this course.

There is a requirement for the student to pass each element of the course in order to progress.

*** Failure to complete any aspect of the academic or clinical components within the set time scale will result in removal from the course and termination of the contract with Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. ***

Any interruption to academic studies would need to be negotiated with the University of Exeter and could lead to re-deployment to a support worker role within the trust.

As part of the multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will provide a key role in providing imaging, care and support to individuals as specified in standard radiographic protocols, or written care or service plans, in a range of environments.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Upper second-class (2:1) honours degree (BSc or BEng) or equivalent.
  • GCSE Maths and English grade C or 4 or Functional skills Maths and English Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English need to meet IELTS requirements of at least 7.0 overall and no less than 6.5 in any other section.

Experience

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a Radiology Department.
  • Experience of working directly with patients providing care or treatment interventions.
