We are pleased to offer this exciting opportunity for a registered AHP to join our ever expanding Pre-Graduate Education Team.

The Pre-Graduate Education Team is committed to supporting and encouraging staff within South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust to develop and support the delivery of high quality care.

The successful candidate must have a positive and engaging nature to motivate others. The successful candidate will be required to present to large groups of pre-graduate learners and healthcare staff.

Main duties of the job

To work within and ensure continued development of an environment conducive to learning, integrating evidence-based theory & practice throughout South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust.

To work closely with team/department managers and professional leads to establish high quality learning environments, support and provide clinical leadership for all apprentices and Pre-Graduate learners within the Trust as necessary.

To assist in the facilitation, delivery of Induction, training and continued evaluation for all newly qualified staff, Support Workers, Pre-Graduate learners within both acute and community settings.

To provide support to all staff who are supervising and assessing newly qualified staff and Pre-Graduate learners.

To work as part of the Pre-Graduate development team, linking closely with the apprenticeship team and the learning and development department to support a coordinated approach to Pre-Graduate learning and professional development.

To support staff in the development of competence and confidence in the delivery of high standards of care whilst being responsive to the needs of patients, relatives and carers as well as service demands.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Ensure all newly qualified staff and Pre-Graduate learners are supported in becoming competent and capable practitioners by employing appropriate development programmes and/or local competency frameworks.

Demonstrate clinical and practice expertise through personal practice and by leading by example.

Act as an advocate for work-based learning within the Trust, supporting staff and their inter-professional learning practice.

Explore and exploit opportunities for learning, development and change, facilitate staff ownership of change and ensure robust systems of evaluation are in operation.

Provide and participate in supporting all Clinical Educators and Preceptors involved in the training and development of newly qualified staff and Pre-Graduate learners in practice.

To give professional support to the multi-disciplinary teams and to participate in performance development for all Pre-Graduate learners in collaboration with service areas and department managers.

Develop, deliver and evaluate structured training sessions for all newly qualified staff in the delivery of fundamental patient care.

Support the delivery, data collection and evaluation of placement expansion across all of the AHP disciplines, in particular the teams who have high workforce risks.

Deliver and evaluate the AHP Support Worker Induction session for new staff promoting the national AHP Support Worker Framework.

To be involved in, and actively promote NHS careers and Allied Health Profession career choices/routes.

Responsibilities for Staff Development

Assess and benchmark acceptable standards of practice.

Identify good practice and foster a culture which celebrates and shares good practice.

Work with groups /individuals to identify specific learning/training needs and development action plans.

Assist and support a structured learning and development plan for those newly qualified staff and Pre-Graduate learners who need to be performance managed in collaboration with the department manager / professional lead and Pre-Graduate development leads.

Work with groups and individuals to embed evidence based, quality practice.

Provide information, guidance, advice, support and recommendations to improve service and training quality.

Assist and support Clinical Educators and Coordinators of all newly qualified staff and Pre-Graduate learners in effective feedback including clinical skill assessments.

Encourage reflective practice in line with clinical governance and HCPC regulations

Participate in critical incident analysis and encourage others to do the same.

Investigate complaints as required, ensuring organisational and individual learning as appropriate.

Provide timely constructive feedback for staff and person specific action plans.

Identify and co-ordinate opportunities for staff development or experience.

Work with individuals to recognise theory or practice gaps or poor performance and support recovery action plans for addressing any issues identified.

Encourage and support staff and learners to raise concerns through incident reporting, freedom to speak you, whistle blowing policy.

To ensure that all health care records demonstrate clearly the HCPC standards for Records and Record keeping.

Maintain accurate documentation, both electronic and paper, in order to ensure timely and effective communication.

Comply with the Data Protection Act to ensure appropriate action is taken to ensure confidentiality and protection of patient information.

Maintain a database of AHP learners and Newly Qualified staff.

Maintain the process by which all staff undergoing supervision and assessment as applicable are monitored ensuring timely sign off.

Educate all newly qualified staff and Pre-Graduate learners regarding the need for accurate recording of all assessments, planning implementation and evaluation required within their role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Allied Health Professional
  • Post registration qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development at degree level study

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years post registration clinical experience
