Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and experienced Speech and Language therapist to join the Neuro and Major Trauma SLT service at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We are looking for someone who is caring and compassionate and who has excellent MDT skills to join our SLT team of 2.8wte in delivering a high quality service across all areas. The caseload is varied including neurosurgical, major trauma, neurorehabilitation and longterm nuerological conditions. Clinically this includes complex dysphagia and acquired disorders of communication and experience in AAC would be beneficial. NeuroRehabilitation is patient centred with joint working, goal setting and weekly MDT meetings. Experience in Tracheostomy is desirable.

We also have established VFS and FEES services respectively and are seeking therapists who are skilled in instrumental assessment however, in- service training is available and and CPD is actively supported. The service embraces evidence based practice, outcomes and innovative practice and you will have the opportunity to continue to develop your clinical portfolio.

Main duties of the job

To provide highly specialist Speech & Language therapy to Neurosciences and Major Trauma.

To support the Clinical Lead SLT in Neurosciences and Major Trauma in taking forward service developments, audit and projects.

To use advanced clinical skills to assess, diagnose and independently manage complex dysphagia and disorders of communication respectively.

To represent speech and language therapy in multidisciplinary team settings and contribute highly specialist expertise for the management of patients with communication and swallowing difficulties.

To demonstrate skills in motivating patients to engage in therapeutic process.

To use excellent organisational and prioritisation skills and a flexible approach to work practice.

To participate in instrumental assessment using videofluroscopy and fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES).

To maintain clinical professional development and be up to date with research and advancements within Neurosciences and Major Trauma.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Highly specialised knowledge in clinical area
  • Completion of the RCSLT Dysphagia Competency Framework - Level C (Specialist level dysphagia practitioner)
  • Able to assess, diagnose and manage complex dysphagia
  • Excellent MDT working skills

Desirable

  • FEES trained
  • Experience of AAC

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • HCPC registration
  • RCSLT registration
  • Graduate or post-graduate qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Evidence of CPD in relevant areas working towards Masters level.

Desirable

  • Masters qualification or modules
