Job summary

The Guernsey Dialysis Matron role is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong management skills and a background in renal care. The position involves working closely with both the on island Renal Physician and the Specialist Renal team at Guys and St Thomas' NHS foundation Trust. (GSTT)

The satellite unit operates six days a week with two dialysis sessions each day. The role includes managing Renal Nursing led clinics (Advanced Kidney Care Clinic, Anaemia, Transplant co-ordination, Post transplant, Supportive care), ensuring that the workforce is well staffed and skilled to meet patient needs according to the contract and Standard Operating Procedures.

The hybrid management and clinical role offers unique support from the GSTT team, including regular one on one meetings with the Head of Nursing via MS Teams and biannual face to face visits. Additionally, visiting clinicians from Guys Hospital attend monthly, providing regular opportunities for in person collaboration.

The key responsibilities of this role include managing a small team of nurses with diverse skill sets, overseeing budget management, procuring consumables whilst aligning orders with risk assessments to maintain adequate backup stock, providing exceptional and personalised patient experiences, reviewing and discussing new service requirements with GSTT, ensuring safe and effective management of the Renal cohort on guernsey and maintaining excellent Infection Prevention and Control on the Unit.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level registered Nurse.
  • Dialysis and Renal experience
  • A proven track record of operational service management at a senior level in an acute hospital environment, including staff management, financial management and change management

Desirable

  • Masters level qualification in nursing or a post graduate qualification is desirable but not essential.

  • Demonstrable previous success in leading and delivering change and performance with and through clinical teams, by engaging them in the strategic direction and delivery plans, establishing clear work priorities with them, delegating effectively, ensuring a capability to deliver, monitoring performance and giving feedback.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively, and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands.
  • A strong sense of personal and team accountability coupled with a clear understanding of the boundaries around delegated authority.
