Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Engineering Department at Guy's Hospital as a Mechanical Plumber. The post holder will be responsible for carrying out scheduled and pre-planned maintenance activities and will attend to reactive works across the Trust's estate. Work is typically assigned using the Planet and Zetasafe programmes, so an awareness of these types of CAFM systems would be an advantage.

The post holder will be responsible for effective maintenance of the Trust's technical infrastructure. This will include responsibility for the effective implementation of the Hospital's Health and Safety policies and protocols. The post holder will have the ability to organise and prioritise their own workload, where required, and work unsupervised, independently, and autonomously.

Interviews are scheduled for W/C 1 July 2024.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the below tasks:

  • Support the team manager to ensure the day-to-day efficient and safe working of all plumbing plant onsite.
  • Carry out CP duties for water treatment systems and plant.
  • Carry out CP duties for swimming pools.
  • Be fully conversant with all types of drainage and sewage ejectors.
  • Carry out routine maintenance (PPM) of mechanical plant, as directed by team manager.
  • Attend to plant and equipment breakdowns and carry out repair and restoration work as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Strip down and clean/disinfect plumbing equipment, such as TMVs and tap fixtures.
  • Work with a range of other craftspeople.
  • Conversant with HTHW, MTHW, LPHW, and Steam Heating Systems.
  • Clear blockages, when required.
  • To be able to work overtime at short notice, if available to do so, depending on the needs of the Trust

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Plumbing Apprenticeship, City & Guilds in Plumbing Services or NVQ level 3, or equivalents.

Desirable

  • IOSH

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Experience in Building services maintenance.
  • Knowledge of good working practices, current plumbing legislation and Health & Safety.
  • Has received appropriate formal training and developed a knowledge of all types of engineering systems
  • Experience of communicating technical information with specialists and non-specialists.

Desirable

  • Experience of operating a computerised building management system

Essential

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent numerical and critical reasoning skills
  • Excellent understanding health and safety law
