An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Management Accountant to join the Finance Team at Bury Care Organisation. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual, who is an excellent team player to support the Financial Management function.

Initially working with the Surgery and Management Divisions but there will be a requirement to enhance your skills and work across the whole care organisation with ad hoc thematic pieces of work.

Ideally we are looking for an individual who is already working near a band 7 and in return we are able to offer flexible working including a home/office hybrid and career development support.

Main duties of the job

To ensure financial information is processed in accordance with established procedures, in order to provide monthly reports, through completion of own work and through liaison with other colleagues within the Team & the NCA.

The post holder will be required to communicate with colleagues, managers and staff within the NCA and external organisations, including other NHS providers, commissioners & the local authority.

Responsible for producing relevant, timely and accurate reports to budget holders within the Care Organisation or group function; including identifying trends, the reasons for variances from forecasted income & expenditure & options to improve the position and providing reliable predictions for the year.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To ensure financial information is processed in accordance with established procedures, in order to provide monthly reports, through completion of own work and through liaison with other colleagues within the Team & the NCA.

The post holder will be required to communicate with colleagues, managers and staff within the NCA and external organisations, including other NHS providers, commissioners & the local authority.

To investigate complex financial enquiries, providing assistance and advice as required.

Responsible for producing relevant, timely and accurate reports to budget holders within the Care Organisation or group function; including identifying trends, the reasons for variances from forecasted income & expenditure & options to improve the position and providing reliable predictions for the year.

Assisting with the assessment of the full financial implications of proposals and their affordability within the overall resources identified.

To supervise the day-to-day activities of the budget managers, budget officers and other junior members of staff within the Team as required by the Senior Management Accountant.

To assist in the interpretation and/or implementation of new regulations and guidance where appropriate.

To undertake ad-hoc tasks from time to time as directed by the Senior Management Accountant.

To deputise as required for the Senior Management Accountant in their absence.

Communications and RelationshipsThe post covers a wide remit managing complex and sensitive aspects of financial work within the organisation and involves working with other professionals at a senior level both within the organisation and externally

The post-holder will need to establish effective communication mechanisms to communicate highly complex information effectively at all levels of the organisation

The post holder will ensure that the Team complies with the NCAs Management Accounting policies and procedures and will maintain knowledge of Financial Procedures and Standing Financial Instructions.

Develop effective working relationships and provide advice and support to budget holders on budgets, budgetary control, and other finance related matters as appropriate, including the provision of training to non-finance staff.

To advise senior budget holders in respect of key areas of financial management and influence the use of strategies and actions in the management of resources within the Care Organisation or group function.

To support, motivate and train staff within the Team and provide training to other staff within the finance function.

Analytical and Judgmental Skills The post holder will analyse and interpret the financial performance of the Care Organisation or group function.

To provide forecasts of likely expenditure, identifying options for management action where costs are likely to exceed budget. This will need to be explicit on the impact these options may have on the achievement of other service targets that have to be met.

Planning and Organisational SkillsTo monitor achievement of plans and identify any deviation from plans; supporting the development of a range of options to deal with any such deviation.

Updates existing procedures as required.

Physical SkillsThe post-holder will be required to undertake normal office activities and input and manipulate financial data into computer spreadsheets where speed and accuracy are necessary.

Responsibility for Patient Care This role does not have any Patient Care responsibilities.

Responsibility for Policy/Service DevelopmentProposes changes to own project/function, informing policy and making recommendations for other projects delivery

To undertake personal development which meets the needs identified in reviews of performance with the Associate Director of Finance.

Responsibilities for Financial and Physical ResourcesThe finance tasks involved with this role include:

  1. Become familiar with management accounting techniques, policies, procedures and routines and be expected to comply with all Trust policies, Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions with the minimum of supervision.

  1. Ensure that all entries into the financial systems within the Trust are correctly coded and authorised appropriately.

  1. Calculate and prepare recharges of expenditure to external agencies.

  1. Calculate accruals and prepayments within strict deadlines for all periodic payments ensuring accurate records are maintained.

  1. Complete, calculate and process of income and expenditure journals in accordance with the reporting timetable.

  1. Complete, calculate and input of budget journals into the Finance system in line with the agreed procedure

  1. Analyse income and expenditure, identifying, investigating and reporting the reasons for any variances.

  1. To contribute to the business planning and budget setting process, and to provide the ongoing and regular financial monitoring information and advice needed to support the effective management of these resources.

  1. To contribute to the production of budget statements for budget holders within the Care Organisation or group function and to monitor costs and to ensure budgets are updated when necessary.

  1. Contribute towards the preparation of ad-hoc financial returns as appropriate.

  1. Continually develop, introduce and improve the systems to assist financial management, monitoring and reporting in the Care Organisation or group function.

Responsibilities for Human ResourcesAssist the Finance Team in the training and development of the Operational Team staff with respect to financial management.

Responsibility for Information ResourcesFrequently required to use software to allow financial monitoring and reporting using advanced skills in a variety of computer packages

Responsible for continuous monitoring and analysing of information against quality standards.

Responsibilities for Research and DevelopmentThere are no responsibilities for Research and Development within this role.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Either AAT or CCCB/CIMA registration
  • 5 GCSEs including Maths & English

Desirable

  • CCAB/CIMA qualified or equivalent knowledge and experience at that level
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent qualification/ experience
