Job summary

We are seeking experienced and dedicated Maternity Support Workers to join our bank team! Candidates should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to handle a fast-paced, high-pressure environment effectively.

Our maternity unit offers a welcoming atmosphere where you will provide essential support and care to expectant and new mothers throughout Somerset. Our services span both acute and community settings, collaborating with the LMNS for a comprehensive, county-wide provision. As an MSW, you will work across various maternity units, including antenatal wards, labour and birth centres, and postnatal wards.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to delivering safe and compassionate care to women and their families. As a team member, you will uphold the Trust Core Values and serve as a role model for new staff.

Main duties of the job

The MSW role will assist the midwives in the delivery of care to women in the hospital, which carries a defined range of duties delegated by and reported back to the registered member of the multi-professional team. The MSW is able to work regularly without direct supervision, reports any concerns, change in the condition of the woman and baby and highlights incidents to the midwife responsible for care.

The applicant needs to be flexible, hardworking and able to support new mums and babies. The post will be working within the antenatal, labour and postnatal wards, after training - the role will include attending theatre, supporting mums with feeding and caring for their babies and completing maternal observations.

After training the MSWs may serve as a point of contact/support for women and their families and provide clinical, physical, psychological and emotional care and support, providing appropriate information and, where necessary, signpost to wider support organisations. Promoting healthy lifestyle for women including smoking cessation, exercise, diet and drug misuse in line with national recommendations and government initiatives.

We offer a form of weekly pay via Wagestream. Bank Pay is an easy way to automatically get paid a percentage of the money you've already earned from any bank shifts completed the previous week. It means you don't have to wait until the end of the month for your bank shift pay, giving you more flexibility.

Don't worry - the remaining portion of your pay is set aside to make sure your tax contributions are paid in full and if your tax contributions amount to less than the money set aside you'll receive it all back at the end of each month.
